Senior Mainframe Application Developer – Banking Domain

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Application Developer with strong expertise in IBM mainframe technologies within the banking domain. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and messaging systems such as IBM MQ, along with a deep understanding of enterprise application development and support.
This role requires a professional who can work in a fast-paced, large corporate environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop, maintain, and support critical banking applications. The consultant will be responsible for troubleshooting production issues, enhancing system performance, and ensuring application resiliency and stability.
The selected candidate will play a key role in maintaining legacy systems, supporting batch and online processes, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives in an Agile environment.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, maintain, and support mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, and DB2
· Work with IBM MQ for message processing and integration across systems
· Handle VSAM files, JCL jobs, and scheduling tools like CA7
· Perform code debugging, testing, and production support in a large-scale environment
· Troubleshoot and resolve application and system issues efficiently
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather and implement requirements
· Participate in on-call support rotation, including weekends if required
· Ensure application stability, resiliency, and adherence to security standards
· Support Agile practices including CI/CD and continuous improvement initiatives
· Utilize tools such as Changeman and other IBM mainframe utilities for deployments
Required Qualifications
· Strong hands-on experience in IBM z/OS, COBOL, CICS, DB2, and JCL
· Proven experience working with IBM MQ and CICS (mandatory)
· Experience with VSAM, CA7 scheduling, and Changeman
· Solid understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies
· Strong analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills
· Experience supporting production systems in a banking or enterprise environment
· Ability to work collaboratively in large teams
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with IMS
· Domain knowledge in Banking and Cards
