job summary:
Client is seeking a Senior Java Developer to join the thinkorswim Performance Engineering team. This role independently plans and delivers performance and resiliency initiatives for a Java-based trading platform, with a focus on latency, scalability, reliability, and resiliency.
The developer builds workloads and tools, identifies code and system bottlenecks, and recommends improvements across client, server, gateway, infrastructure, and cloud environments.
This role requires deep Core Java knowledge and strong diagnostic skills. The developer reads source code, analyzes JVM and system behavior, and understands production traffic. They turn findings into code, configuration, capacity, and design recommendations.

responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for coding performance test scripts in Core Java, develop and maintain Unix shell and Python based framework
- Develop custom tooling, creating mock services and maintenance of the tool repository
- Gather and analyze performance requirements in collaboration with project owners and stakeholders
- Support in writing performance test plans, executing performance tests, monitor application behavior, analyze and identify code-level performance bottlenecks.
- Identify and collect key system performance metrics
- Address client-side and server-side performance issues and recommend performance and resiliency enhancements and tuning
- Support in providing solutions for production monitoring
- Understand the complex code base quickly and be able to work within ambiguous design constraints.
- Develop deeper understanding of architecture to identify unique solutions to provide the best client experience in a scalable way
- Work with the Performance QA team on test runs to stress the capabilities of the system and identify bottlenecks at the code level
