Overview

Description of General Duties:
  • Provides operations and maintenance support for all computer information services and data processing hardware and software. Accomplishes assigned tasks independently in accordance with overall project objectives and requirements.
  • Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all computer information services. Capable of maintaining and repairing PC workstations and laptop computers to include installed software applications. Provides software maintenance, upgrades, and installation of new applications, debugging, and checkout. Monitors data communications network to ensure the network is available to all systems users and resolves data communications problems. Assists with automating report generation. Monitors hardware and software in order to detect malfunctions in LAN/WAN software or hardware. Enters diagnostic commands into computer to determine the nature of a problem and reads codes on screen to diagnose a problem. Read technical reference manuals for communications hardware and software to learn cause of problems. Instructs users on the proper use of LAN/WAN and methods to resolve problems. Records LAN/WAN system malfunctions and action taken. Updates documentation to record new equipment installed, new sites, and changes to computer configurations. Installs communication lines and sets up system accounts. Attend staff meetings to report on and to resolve recurring data communication problems.
  • Responsible for system maintenance and implementation of required changes. Assists users with data communications problems such as failures of data to be transmitted to another location. Reviews procedures users follow to determine whether specified steps were taken. Explains user procedures necessary to enter, compile, and transmit data. Works closely with staff and the Government to set and maintain standard file server and workstation configurations. Creates and maintains user accounts in accordance with standard guidelines. Protects the integrity and security of the network shared directory structure. Establishes and maintains vendor relationships to purchase network-related products. Ensures the integrity of the network directory services tree(s). Establishes and ensures the proper backup and restoration solutions to include the storage and archival requirements. Creates and delivers customer training programs for end users and management. Identifies and implements enhancements to the LAN/WAN. Apprises supervisor of progress and unusual complications. The supervisor reviews work completion for timeliness, effectiveness, and meeting requirements.
  • Provides technical guidance to lower-level technicians. Performs organizational, intermediate, and depot-level maintenance on assigned equipment. Performs system operation.
  • Assists Government with CMS duties as required.
  • Cross-trained and qualified to operate at least two additional TCTS systems.
  • Documents maintenance actions in IEMS.


Qualifications

Minimum Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent



Minimum Experience Requirements:
  • Four years' experience in the following areas:
    • Installation and maintenance of computer systems and network servers; network interfaces and associated equipment; digital/analog signal processing; communications (fiber-optic, multiplexer) equipment; TCP/IP, hubs, routers, bridges and firewalls; Microsoft and UNIX/LINUX administration
    • MIS databases and software development, modification, and installation
    • Microsoft desktop products
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English


Minimum Position-Specific Training Required:
  • Formal classroom education equivalent to Navy "C" School or vocational school with formal training in the field of electronic equipment maintenance and equipment manufacturer training
  • Approved Microsoft Operations
  • UNIX/LINUX networking administration training
  • DOD network security training
  • Possess a valid state Driver's License

Certification Requirements:
  • Cybersecurity Requirements

This position has been assigned to the following CyberIT/CSWF Specialty Areas:
  1. Specialty Code 45 - System Administration - Intermediate/Journeyman


Employees must meet the qualification levels of the assigned CyberIT/CSWF Specialty Area IAW DoD 8140 & SECNAV M-5239.2

Citizenship and Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Obtain and maintain the appropriate level of clearance


Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Typical office environment with no unusual hazards, occasional lifting to 20 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness
  • Must possess planning/organizing skills and must be able to work under deadlines.
  • Routine travel to remote site facilities may be involved.
  • Work is occasionally performed in a shop or other facility environment that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated, is exposed to disagreeable fumes and to cuts and bruises from using tools in close placed and hazards of moving vehicles such as forklifts and sweepers in shop area.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee frequently is required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
  • Frequently lifts items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally in excess of 45 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.

Pay Range

USD $45.00 - USD $54.13 /Yr.
