Position Summary
Seeking a highly motivated Engineer to support battery cell manufacturing engineering activities with a focus on pre-production trials, problem-solving, and process improvement. This role is responsible for leading planning and issue resolution efforts by utilizing structured problem-solving methods, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing competitiveness. The engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams, support material, product, and process-related investigations, develop trial plans, create technical reports, and contribute to organizational learning and capability development. The position also offers future opportunities to support process equipment production preparation activities, including equipment specification, procurement, installation, and trial management. Candidates should possess experience in manufacturing environments, production preparation, battery cell processes, and cross-functional collaboration, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
What you’ll be doing
- Member of cross-functional team collaborating with equipment.
- Engage and resolve material, product, and process issues both internal and external.
- Create and implement working/trial plan for confirmation & problem-solving activity.
- Create detail technical and summary reports for organizational learning and development.
- Input to process & equipment plan/specification for kaizen & issue reoccurrence prevention.
- Use and advancement of systems and procedure for problem solving & learning capture.
- Individual activity management, status visualization/reporting, and incremental reflection.
- Participate in internal & external partner relationships aligning to team objectives, development, and support.
- Activity related to PE-BME Department-level Hoshin for organizational advancement.
- Individual support for standardization & kaizen of Department systems and process.
- Drive own individual development, seek feedback, and monitor progress.
What you bring
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Engineering or similar technical field or 5+ years of equivalent Engineering role experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in (△1) manufacturing production preparation role and schedule/deliverable management including stages of project plan, process/equipment plan, specification & procurement, installation and trial.
- (2 years Required, 4 years Preferred)
- Experience in battery cell product, processes/equipment, and/or trial activity.
(1+ years Required, 2+ years Preferred) - Experience in activity of Ryohin Joken identification, application, and/or confirmation.
- Experience coordinating with varied functions in large corporate organization, including production engineering, manufacturing, research & development, or similar, and reporting out to senior leadership level.
- Experience in interpreting & applying product/process specification, drawing, etc.
- Experience in product x process/equipment simultaneous engineering for new model.
- Ability for weekend and shutdown work, overtime up to 25%, and travel (domestic and international) up to 25%.
What you may bring
- Experience in application of Toyota Production System.
- Documented problem-solving certification or activity such as Toyota Business Practice (TBP), Fault Tree Analysis, or similar.
- Experience in manufacturing plant production operations role.
- Experience in data analytics tools and methods.
- Experience in digital engineering software tools and procedures, including the ability to read, interpret and modify model data.
- Japanese language proficiency including verbal and written.
