Thematic Investing develops and operates one of Schwab's most innovative products with the primary goal of delighting our clients while empowering them to meet their financial objectives. Thematic Investing provides our customers the ability to invest in Themes curated by Schwab's research team.

What you'll do:

Thematic Core Services team seeks an experienced and highly skilled mid-level Java Developer to join our dynamic development team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing, developing, and maintaining complex software applications using Java technologies.
  • Design, develop, test, and deploy robust Java-based applications and services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, business analysts, and QA engineers, to gather requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, perform code reviews and share best practices.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize code for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Stay up to date with emerging Java technologies and frameworks, recommending and implementing improvements as needed.
  • Contributed to the documentation of software architecture, design decisions, and processes.
  • Ensure adherence to software development standards and security best practices.

What you have

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of professional experience in Java software development.
  • Strong proficiency in Java SE/EE, Spring Framework, Hibernate, and RESTful web services.
  • Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL).
  • Hands-on experience designing and building APIs.
  • Solid understanding of object-oriented design principles and design patterns.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
Preferred Skills
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, and CSS is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Knowledge of containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with microservices architecture is highly desirable.
  • Experience with trading and/or high-volume, high-availability systems.

In addition to the base pay range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
