Job Descriptiononsemi is looking for an experienced engineer to join the SiC Product Division as a Staff Applications Engineer. This role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
As a Staff Applications Engineer, you will work in a fast-paced team that evaluates new Silicon Carbide (SiC) technologies, validates next-generation SiC power modules for industrial markets, and supports release to production. The work includes theoretical analysis of power converter topologies, simulation, and hands-on bench testing. You will interact with leading global customers and collaborate with teams across onsemi. You will also have a direct influence on future product roadmaps.
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will have the opportunity to:
- Evaluate and validate advanced SiC power modules
- Work in a modern, well-equipped high-power laboratory
- Design and test evaluation boards, and write application notes and datasheets
- Partner with marketing to create collateral and support tradeshows
- Collaborate with customers on complex power semiconductor challenges and build long-term technical relationships
Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 5 to 6 years of experience, a Master's degree with 3 to 4 years of experience, or a PhD in power electronics
- Experience with power module validation is strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of power converter topologies
- Solid knowledge of SiC device behavior and key tradeoffs
- Familiarity with control theory, analog circuits, power supply design, and basic digital electronics
- Experience with PCB layout, LabView, and/or Python is a plus
- Strong proficiency with SPICE simulators, SIMPLIS/Simetrix, and MATLAB or equivalent tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- This is a highly visible role and includes up to 10 percent travel to support customers worldwide.
