Role Summary:

We re looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and curated data models that power Retail Planning analytics and decision-making (e.g., demand planning, assortment, allocation, replenishment, merchandise/financial planning, and performance reporting). You ll partner closely with Planning stakeholders, Analytics/BI, and upstream source teams to ensure high-quality, governed, and reliable data products across the Retail Planning data ecosystem. In addition to hands-on engineering, you will lead delivery, provide technical direction, and mentor engineers to ensure consistent engineering standards and predictable execution.

Key Responsibilities

Data Engineering & Platform Delivery

Design and develop robust ETL/ELT pipelines integrating retail planning data from upstream systems (e.g., planning platforms, sales/OMS, inventory, product/PLM, pricing, promotions, and supply chain sources).

Build and optimize data models (dimensional + curated marts) that enable planning use cases such as forecasting accuracy, inventory health, allocation effectiveness, replenishment performance, and assortment productivity.

Implement and maintain data quality controls, monitoring, and automated validations; ensure governance, lineage, and auditability standards are met.

Optimize performance and cost for large-scale processing on cloud data platforms; tune compute/storage, clustering/partitioning, and pipeline orchestration.

Enable self-serve consumption for Analytics/BI by publishing trusted datasets, documentation, and semantic-friendly structures.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Work closely with Retail Planning, Merchandising, and Supply Chain stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.

Partner with BI/Analytics teams to automate recurring data preparation, KPI calculations, and reporting datasets.

Participate in incident triage and root-cause analysis for pipeline/data issues, drive prevention through durable fixes.

Lead Responsibilities

Act as the technical lead for the planning data engineering workstream: guide solution design, sequencing, and delivery commitments.

Mentor and coach engineers; conduct code reviews and enforce best practices for reliability, testing, and maintainability.

Define and uphold engineering standards (naming conventions, data contracts, testing approach, documentation, and release practices).

Own sprint planning inputs, help break down work into stories/tasks, and proactively manage risks/dependencies with cross-functional partners.

Skills & Qualifications

Strong hands-on expertise in SQL and Python, and modern data engineering patterns (batch/streaming concepts, data modeling, orchestration).

Experience with Snowflake, Airflow, dbt (or equivalent) and building curated marts/semantic-ready datasets.

Strong understanding of data warehousing and modeling principles (dimensional modeling, slowly changing dimensions, conformed dimensions, etc.).

Experience working in cloud environments (e.g., AWS/Azure) and optimizing performance/cost at scale.

Working knowledge of code versioning (Git), CI/CD, and Agile delivery tools (Jira) must have.

Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills; able to translate planning needs into data products.

Retail Planning domain exposure (preferred)

Familiarity with retail planning concepts and data: forecasting, inventory, allocation, replenishment, assortment, pricing/promo, sell-through, WOS/DOH, in-season vs. pre-season planning, etc.

Exposure to common retail data sources like sales transactions, inventory snapshots, product hierarchies, store/channel attributes, supplier/lead times, and order flows.

Education Qualification

Bachelor s/Master s in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field (equivalent experience acceptable).
