Position DescriptionThe IT Support Technician I's scope includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of basic hardware and some software support and maintenance. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.
Major/Essential Functions- This position will also specialize in hardware and software relevant to the department or unit.
- Media support (at point-of-need, over the phone, and via email): setup of media for classroom/meeting space/event; resolving media equipment and configuration problems
- Maintenance of multimedia equipment (22 multimedia-equipped classrooms, portable multimedia equipment, lecture capture systems, and digital signage panels.
- Technical support (in-person walk-up, over the phone, and email): break-fix; service requests; customer training
- Receive cross-training from coworkers on various computer hardware and software troubleshoots and repair. Participates in event setup and support as required. Periodic events require non-business hours shift work (e.g. executive conferences, seminars, etc.)
- Works closely with departmental clients to ensure their needs are met through, operations, and support. Ensures high profile and executive level events are effectively supported.
- Participates in design and implementation of AV/Media systems to ensure alignment with faculty, staff, and student needs.
- Adheres to all appropriate Institutional policies (including IT OPs) and other relevant internal departmental policies.
- Supports the Service Plus Philosophy of Texas Tech University.
- Other duties as assigned.
With close supervision by management and/or project leads:
- Provides department or unit, primarily basic hardware and some software support and maintenance, including, but not limited to, desktops, printers, lab equipment, etc.
- Troubleshoots primarily hardware, some software, or some system problems.
- Performs technical duties necessary for department or unit business operations.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area OR a combination of related education and/or experience. Applicants for this Security Sensitive Level II position will be subject to a criminal background check and must pass a drug and alcohol test after a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but before employment can be confirmed.
