We are currently assisting our client who is an engineering & consulting firm, in their search for a Junior Civil Designer to focus on the design of underground power transmission and distribution infrastructure. Position: Civil Designer

Location: Wallingford, CT

Rate: $32/HR

Duration: 6-12 Months Contract to Hire!

***Qualified candidates will have their Associate's Degree OR a Bachelor's Degree outside of the Engineering field***
Position Overview

We are seeking a Junior Civil Designer to support underground utility and infrastructure projects. This position involves producing accurate design documents, collaborating with engineering teams, and ensuring compliance with project standards. The ideal candidate will play a key role in preparing and updating design drawings, layouts, and calculations for complex civil projects while maintaining quality and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and update design drawings, layouts, and calculations for complex civil projects.
  • Develop plans using established design practices, including sequencing, presentation, and component sizing.
  • Convert preliminary sketches and mark-ups into finalized design documents.
  • Review technical data such as maps, reports, and geologic information to inform project planning.
  • Apply relevant codes, standards, and specifications to meet design requirements.
  • Deliver accurate drawings and documentation within defined scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Incorporate project timelines, budgets, and technical criteria into design deliverables.
  • Maintain organized records of all drawing revisions and project documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure design accuracy and compliance.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support project success.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Underground coordination experience (utilities, telecom, O etc.) and a clear technical aptitude.
  • Proficiency in civil design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation, OpenSite).
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and design standards.
  • Ability to interpret technical data and apply it to design solutions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Preferred:
  • Familiarity with GIS tools and geotechnical data analysis.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and regulations.
