Duration: 12 Month Contract (Potential for Extension)

Shift: 1st Shift 6am-4:30pm

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Machinist to join our manufacturing team in Houston, TX. This role is responsible for setting up and operating manual lathes and other precision machining equipment to produce high-quality metal components. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in manual machining, blueprint reading, and maintaining tight tolerances in a fast-paced production environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate manual lathes to manufacture precision components per engineering drawings and specifications
  • Operate manual milling machines, drills, and grinders for cutting, drilling, and shaping metal parts
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and GD&T requirements
  • Select appropriate cutting tools, speeds, and feeds based on material and job requirements
  • Perform precise measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other inspection tools
  • Maintain tight tolerances and ensure parts meet quality standards
  • Perform machine adjustments, offsets, and minor maintenance as needed
  • Inspect finished parts and document results to ensure compliance
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to meet deadlines
  • Assist with hydrostatic testing of fabricated pipes (training provided)
  • Support assembly of gas turbine packages and compressor systems
  • Work with test teams to set up and support test bays for equipment validation
  • Partner with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams as needed

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required (or 10+ years of relevant machining experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in manual lathe machining in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and GD&T
  • Experience maintaining tight tolerances and quality standards
  • Familiarity with precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in compressor or gas turbine assembly
  • Exposure to hydrostatic testing processes
  • Experience working in heavy manufacturing or industrial environments
