Responsibilities

As a Data Center Apprentice Engineer - Union with Hines, you will effectively and efficiently operate and maintain all HVAC and related equipment, providing environmental control to the property and to perform maintenance from tenant requests Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the Engineer, Assistant Chief and Chief in the performance of their duties
  • Performs general maintenance also to include refurbishing towers under direction of Asst. Chief Engineer
  • Maintains ethical, professional and courteous relations with Tenants
  • Acts as a team member with all Employees on the management staff
  • Perform maintenance in a safe manner under the direction of Engineer, Assistant Chief and Chief Engineer
  • Makes adjustments and changes to HVAC and related equipment to maintain established comfort zones. These adjustments and changes must be within the guidelines set forth by the Chief Engineer and/or Assistant Chief Engineer
  • Aids in the ordering, stocking and inventory of parts and supplies as directed by the Chief Engineer or the Assistant Chief Engineer

Other Functions:
  • Maintains the integrity of all mechanical spaces
  • Assumes additional responsibilities and authority as delegated by the Chief Engineer or the Assistant Chief Engineer
  • Follow MSDS safety procedures when working with said chemicals

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements include:

  • High school diploma
  • Member of Local 68, in good standing with the union, attending Local 68 training program
  • Reads and understands equipment instruction manuals.
  • Uses proper English when interacting with tenants.
  • Communicates essential information needed for decision making.
  • Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form.
  • Understands basic building system design and operation, i.e. fire system, domestic water system, HVAC system and electrical distribution system.
  • Uses proper organizational skills and compiles appropriate information to plan and complete assigned tasks.
  • Walks up and down stairs for inspections and emergency procedure practice or implementation.
  • Cleaning inspections require getting on hands and knees to inspect inaccessible areas.
  • Ability to work weekends and extended hours.
  • Work indoors approximately 80% of the time and outdoors approximately 20% of the time.
  • Climbs ladders to adjust air flow and make inspections above ceiling.
  • Detects emergency alarms - audible and/or visual.
  • Moves fifty-five gallon drums with drum dolly.
