Staff Engineer ? AI Engineering Productivity (Contract-to-Hire)
About the Role
We're looking for a Staff Engineer to help shape the future of AI-enabled software engineering across the enterprise. This is a highly strategic role focused on building and leading an internal AI Toolkit that enables engineering teams to effectively adopt, govern, and scale AI development capabilities.

This is not a traditional software engineering role. While strong technical credibility is essential, success will come from influencing engineering teams, driving adoption, and helping establish best practices for AI-assisted software development.

You'll join a small, high-impact team with significant opportunity to define strategy, build new capabilities, and leave your mark on how AI is used across the organization.

What You'll Do
Lead the creation and evolution of the organization's internal AI Toolkit and engineering AI ecosystem.
Define best practices, governance, standards, and onboarding experiences for AI development tools.
Evaluate emerging AI technologies and recommend tooling based on business value, cost, security, and engineering effectiveness.
Build guidance, documentation, learning paths, and training materials that help engineers progress from beginner to advanced AI users.
Partner directly with engineering teams to understand challenges and identify where AI can improve developer productivity.
Lead workshops, presentations, and engineering enablement sessions.
Establish trusted relationships across engineering teams and influence adoption of new tools and processes.
Help define the lifecycle of AI tools, including evaluation, approval, governance, maintenance, and retirement.
Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, security, and engineering leaders to create a cohesive AI ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
Extensive software engineering experience with modern application development.
Experience building or implementing AI-enabled developer workflows.
Hands-on experience with GitHub Copilot and/or AWS Bedrock.
Experience building or orchestrating AI agents.
Strong understanding of software architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and modern engineering practices.
Proven ability to influence engineers and technical leaders without direct authority.
Exceptional communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
Experience leading organizational or engineering transformation initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications
Full-stack software development background.
Java development experience.
Kubernetes/containerized application experience.
Experience evaluating AI tooling or developer productivity platforms.
Experience creating technical training or enablement programs.
Background working with enterprise engineering organizations.
