Role: Senior Java Backend Engineer - Order Management (Retail)
Location: Austin, TX (Onsite - Locals)
Duration: 6 months contract

Job description:
We are seeking a Senior Java Backend Engineer to design and build highly scalable, secure, and high-performance Order Management Systems (OMS) supporting large-scale retail operations. This role involves developing distributed, event-driven backend services responsible for order processing, payment workflows, inventory coordination, and fulfilment systems in a cloud-native environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend services using Java.
- Build and maintain distributed systems supporting retail order management workflows.
- Develop and consume RESTful APIs.
- Implement event-driven architectures using messaging systems (Kafka, SQS, SNS).
- Optimize system performance through profiling and tuning.
- Design and maintain secure, compliant systems aligned with PCI-DSS, PII, and SOX standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend software development experience.
- Strong expertise in Java and object-oriented programming.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
- Experience building and consuming RESTful APIs.
- Strong hands-on experience with messaging technologies:
- Kafka
- AWS SQS/SNS
- Experience with high-scale database systems:
- NoSQL: Cassandra, MongoDB, Couchbase
- SQL: Oracle
- Experience with caching technologies:
- Redis, Hazelcast, Memcache
- Experience designing secure systems (PCI-DSS, PII, SOX compliance).
- Experience with CI/CD, Git, Maven/Gradle.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience in retail or e-commerce environments.
- Experience with high-volume Order Management Systems.
- Experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
