Summary

KAIROS, Inc is searching for an energetic, experienced, and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer, Journeyman, to join our team. This position is contingent upon contract award. This position is onsite in Newport, Rhode Island.

This position will research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. The work will support power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. The position will also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing.

Primary Duties:
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, or computer-generated reports.
  • Research, design, evaluate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical products, equipment, systems and processes to meet requirements.
  • Specify system components or direct modification of products to ensure conformance with engineering design, performance specifications, or environmental regulations.
  • Confer with engineers or other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, or provide technical information.
  • Investigate equipment failures or difficulties to diagnose faulty operation and recommend remedial actions.
  • Utilize computers to assist in efficiently performing computations, and by permitting the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs.
  • Utilize Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) for design data processing and for turning the design into a product.
Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong customer relations, analytics, and documentation skills

  • Microsoft office suite proficiency, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work within a challenging, fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to provide clear status and/or communicate issues
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technology
  • Proficient with CAD software and analysis tools (structural analysis, thermal analysis).
  • Experience with systems engineering framework and reviews such as System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, and Critical Design Review.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, material selection, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience with design, development, installation, and maintenance of rackmounted communications systems, including aircraft and ship-based equipment.

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's level degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 years of professional relevant experience.
Clearance:
This position is subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. This position requires an Active Secret Security Clearance.

Compensation:
While skills, education, and experience are key factors, they are not the sole determinants of salary. Other determining factors include but are not limited to location, contract budgets and requirements, and government labor category guidelines. The estimated salary range for this position is $90,000 to $125,000. KAIROS also provides a comprehensive benefits package as additional employee compensation.
