Summary
Job Title: Digital Solutions Architect
Location: Madison, WI (Hybrid - must be able to work onsite ~10 days/month)
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Duration: 6 months contract-to-hire
Overview
We are seeking a Digital Solutions Architect to support the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and flexible application solutions within a cloud-based environment. This role focuses on application architecture and works closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and third-party partners to translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
This position plays a key role in defining architecture patterns, promoting best practices, and guiding development teams across multiple initiatives. The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in cloud technologies, solution architecture, and modern application design principles.
Key Responsibilities
* Partner with business and technology teams to define and deliver scalable architecture solutions aligned to business needs
* Analyze business requirements and translate them into architectural designs and technical strategies
* Develop and promote reusable architecture patterns, standards, and best practices
* Collaborate with development teams to provide hands-on architecture guidance throughout the SDLC
* Evaluate build vs. buy decisions and recommend optimal technology solutions
* Support integration efforts across distributed systems and third-party platforms
* Identify gaps in current architecture and recommend improvements
* Contribute to architecture roadmaps and long-term technology strategies
* Ensure solutions align with modern security standards and enterprise architecture principles
* Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineering teams
Core Requirements
* Experience designing and implementing enterprise application architectures
* Hands-on experience in AWS environments
* Strong understanding of modern architecture patterns, including:
Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA)
Microservices and decoupled design principles
Cloud-native application design
* Experience working with integration patterns and distributed systems
* Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
* Experience collaborating with third-party vendors and cross-functional teams
* Strong problem-solving skills and ability to navigate complex organizational environments
Technical Skills & Tools
* Cloud Platforms: AWS (required)
* Application Architecture: Microservices, serverless architecture, API-driven design
* Security: IAM, data protection (DLP), secure architecture design, Zero Trust principles
* Integration & Messaging: API gateways, event-driven architecture, messaging/queueing tools (e.g., SQS)
* Development Background: Experience with at least one or more of the following:
JavaScript
Python
Java (reading/understanding existing code is beneficial)
* Infrastructure & Compute: Experience with EC2, serverless (Lambda), and container services (ECS/EKS exposure preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience developing architecture patterns and standards for engineering teams
* Familiarity with architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, ITIL, Zachman)
* Exposure to data architecture, streaming, and integration design
* Understanding of emerging technologies, including AI/ML applications within enterprise solutions
* Strong adaptability and ability to learn new technologies quickly
Experience
* Approximately 5+ years of experience in solution architecture, software engineering, or related fields (flexible based on level of expertise)
* Prior hands-on experience building applications in AWS-based environments
