Job Title: Cybersecurity Awareness Specialist

Location: San Diego, CA (Hybrid)

Duration: 6+ Months (Contract to Extend)

Responsibilities
  • As a Cybersecurity Awareness Specialist, you will be responsible for delivering and continuously improving our organization's security awareness and training program. Working alongside a dedicated IT team, your focus will be on educating employees at all levels on cybersecurity best practices, reducing human risk, and driving measurable improvements through effective training, communication, and metrics.
  • The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, a critical thinker, and a cybersecurity professional who can translate technical concepts into clear, practical guidance for non-technical audiences. (Note: All necessary equipment for both in-office and work-from-home setups will be provided by the company).

Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging cybersecurity awareness and training programs for employees across the organization.
  • Create and deliver compelling presentations to communicate cybersecurity concepts, initiatives, and awareness content (both virtual and in-person).
  • Translate complex technical cybersecurity concepts (e.g., phishing, ransomware, MFA, data protection) into clear, easy-to-understand layman's language.
  • Understand, manage, and optimize security awareness platforms and learning tools.
  • Analyze training results and user behavior data to produce meaningful metrics, reports, and insights.
  • Continuously improve training content based on metrics, emerging threats, and organizational needs.
  • Collaborate with IT, Security, HR, and Compliance teams to ensure training aligns with company policies, standards, and risk initiatives.
  • Support major security campaigns, communications, and enterprise-wide awareness events (e.g., phishing simulations, Cybersecurity Awareness Month).

Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in cybersecurity awareness, information security, training, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience training employees at various technical skill levels.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present confidently to diverse audiences.
  • Strong critical thinking, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while collaborating effectively with a broader team.
  • Note: This role is strictly focused on awareness and training. Candidates with backgrounds primarily in IT Operations, Networking, SOX, or Forensics will not be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2 to 5 years of dedicated experience in cybersecurity awareness.
  • Prior experience explicitly mentoring, teaching, or training others.
  • Proven experience developing, tracking, and reporting on training metrics and program effectiveness.
