Job Description

CDM Smith's Atlanta, GA office is looking for full-time Transportation Data Specialist to support transportation data analytics and engineering tasks. This role is ideal for a candidate with strong technical depth, applied problem-solving skills, and experience working at the intersection of transportation, data science, and engineering.

The selected candidate will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of transportation engineers, planners, and technical specialists to develop data-driven solutions that improve mobility, safety, system performance, and decision-making. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to high-impact local, state, and federal projects while advancing innovative approaches in transportation analytics.

Responsibilities
Lead and support transportation data analytics tasks for planning, operations, safety, freight, and engineering projects.
Lead quality control activities for transportation data analytics, engineering analyses, technical documentation, and client deliverables to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project requirements.
Analyze data from sources such as traffic counts, crash data, probe data, transit data, GIS, connected vehicle data, and roadway inventory systems.
Apply statistical methods, predictive analytics, machine learning, and visualization techniques to solve transportation problems.
Support engineering and planning teams with data-driven insights, technical analysis, and performance measures.
Prepare technical memoranda, reports, presentations, and documentation.
Collaborate with project managers and technical leads to scope tasks, meet schedules, and deliver high-quality work products.
Mentor junior staff in data analytics methods, coding practices, and transportation applications.
Contribute to proposal development, technical approach writing, and innovation initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree. 10 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Transportation Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Strong experience with programming languages such as Python, R, SQL, or similar tools used for data analysis and automation.
Experience working with large, complex, and multi-source datasets.
Knowledge of transportation systems, traffic operations, freight, safety analysis, and transportation planning applications.
Experience with GIS platforms and spatial data analysis.
Experience supporting public sector or federal transportation projects is preferred.
Experience with machine learning, predictive modeling, and data visualization platforms such as Power BI or Tableau.
Familiarity with transportation datasets and tools such as probe data, crash databases, travel demand data, freight datasets, or roadway inventory systems.
Interest in innovation and advancing data-driven transportation solutions.
