About the Role:
A Desktop Software Management (DSM) team within a Digital Workplace Technology organization is seeking a Packaging, Deployment & Certification Engineer. The team owns integration, certification, and deployment of desktop software and security patches across the enterprise endpoint estate thin clients, physical desktops and laptops, VDI, and Mac workstations.
You will package application code into standard MSI or silent Windows installs, certify those packages in a controlled lab environment to confirm clean install/upgrade/back-out behavior against the production security stack, and manage their scheduled release into production.
What You'll Do:
- Build and modify software packages in BigFix and Jamf.
- Test automated install, upgrade, and back-out of applications in BigFix.
- Deploy software packages via BigFix (Windows) and Jamf (macOS).
- Provide production support for thin clients, physical desktops/laptops, and VDI.
- Submit and monitor change requests through the established Change Management process.
- Support desktop engineering work including image provisioning, image updates, and thin client updates.
- Drive vulnerability management and software patching activity.
- Maintain compliance with Microsoft's semi-annual OS release cadence through automation and continuous process improvement in the lab and test environments.
- Identify and report pre-deployment issues, partnering closely with Application Product Owners.
- Advise project managers, developers, and system administrators on software testing and certification requirements.
- Implement automated testing solutions to improve accuracy, efficiency, and throughput.
- Maintain the DSM test lab, tooling, and network infrastructure, and report on testing status.
What You'll Bring:
Required:
- 3 5 years in desktop application packaging, testing, automation, and QA.
- Strong hands-on BigFix skills: Fixlet creation, Relevance authoring, and reporting.
- Jamf experience for macOS package management and deployment.
- Experience managing virtual machine environments with VMware, vSphere, and Citrix.
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, Microsoft Intune, and the OS imaging process.
- Strong Windows OS troubleshooting and performance testing skills.
- Experience supporting Windows OS, VDI, Citrix, and Mac workstations.
- Ability to maintain a test lab and network infrastructure, including familiarity with hardware models and topology.
- College degree or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred:
- Scripting in PowerShell (Windows) and/or Bash (macOS).
- Experience in a large, regulated enterprise environment.
