Are you a senior data architect looking to lead a massive data modernization effort at a premier legal services provider? We are seeking a heavyweight backend engineering professional to champion the transition from legacy on-premises databases to a unified Microsoft Fabric Lakehouse architecture. In this remote role, you will be the cornerstone of a newly launched enterprise ecosystem, rescuing a massive data backlog, mentoring junior developers, and setting the rigorous data governance foundation needed for cutting-edge AI integrations. responsibilities:
- Start your morning collaborating with the Knowledge Management leadership team to architect and stabilize the backend data foundation using Microsoft Fabric.
- Take full ownership of replacing fragmented, legacy ETL pipelines with a modern, unified lakehouse ecosystem.
- Write and execute Python and SQL notebooks to transform, validate, and securely move vast amounts of critical firm data across platforms.
- Design and maintain robust semantic models that power enterprise-level analytics and Power BI dashboards.
- Develop custom SharePoint Online solutions, including libraries, workflows, and frontend web parts, to support daily practice operations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level developers, alleviating their backend architectural load and streamlining incoming data requests.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders and database administrators to ensure data integrity, governance, and readiness for future AI deployments
qualifications:
Must-Haves:
Previous experience working directly within a law firm, court system, or legal technology environment.
Extensive background in backend data engineering, specifically migrating legacy on-premises SQL Server databases to modern cloud architectures.
Deep architectural expertise in Microsoft Fabric, including OneLake, Lakehouse, and semantic modeling.
Advanced proficiency in building scalable ETL and ELT pipelines using Python, PySpark, and complex SQL queries.
Ability to work strict EST core hours (9:00 AM to 6:00 PM) and willingness to travel to the Southeast US for strategic planning sessions 2 to 3 times per year.
Reside in an approved remote location (Candidates located in New York and California are explicitly excluded from consideration).
Nice-to-Haves:
Familiarity with frontend development technologies such as React JS, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
Experience with SharePoint Online administration, Power Automate flows, and custom scripting.
Prior exposure to complex legal CRM, billing, financial, or matter management software systems.
A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
