Job Title: Java Senior Engineer 1
Location: Denver, CO – Hybrid
Duration: 12+ Months
Position Overview
The Client is seeking an experienced Java Developer Contractor to support the design, development, testing, and maintenance of web applications, backend services, REST APIs, and cloud-based solutions.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Java, Java 21, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS, GitLab CI/CD, and modern software development practices. Experience with Terraform, Thymeleaf, and AI-assisted development tools is highly valued.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based applications using Java SDK 21.
Develop applications using Spring Boot and the broader Spring Framework.
Build and maintain REST APIs and JSON-based integrations.
Support web applications using Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Work with AWS infrastructure and services, including:
Amazon ECS
API Gateway
DynamoDB
Use GitLab for source control and development workflows.
Build, maintain, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
Collaborate on application architecture, implementation decisions, code reviews, and deployment practices.
Contribute to infrastructure-as-code initiatives using Terraform where applicable.
Use IntelliJ IDEA as the primary development environment.
Follow software engineering best practices for coding, testing, documentation, and operational support.
Leverage AI-assisted coding tools where appropriate to improve development productivity and code quality.
Required Qualifications
Strong professional experience developing applications using Java.
Experience with Java 21 or recent Java SDK versions.
Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring Framework.
Experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs.
Strong knowledge of JSON and API integration patterns.
Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Experience with Git-based source control, preferably GitLab.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, preferably GitLab CI/CD.
Practical experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS.
Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Thymeleaf.
Hands-on experience with:
Amazon ECS
Amazon API Gateway
Amazon DynamoDB
Experience with Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code tools.
Professional experience with IntelliJ IDEA.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as:
Claude Code
GitHub Copilot
Cursor
Similar AI coding tools
Experience troubleshooting cloud deployments, application logs, build pipelines, and environment issues.
Understanding of secure coding and cloud application security concepts.
