Job Description

Client has a contract opportunity on the Trait Performance Research team. The Laboratory Technician will support a multidisciplinary research program within Biotechnology R&D by generating high-quality data that informs advancement decisions and accelerates development of innovative agricultural solutions. Standard hours are 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities:

• Support plant tissue sampling and processing in field and greenhouse settings, including tissue collection, lyophilization, sample weighing, equipment cleaning, laboratory organization, inventory management, and preparation of samples for downstream analytical testing.


• Maintain sample tracking systems and databases to ensure accurate identification, documentation, and traceability. Collaborate with research scientists, expression laboratories, and field teams to facilitate timely sample submission and data flow.


• Partner with the Greenhouse Lead to execute routine greenhouse operations, including tissue sampling and submission, plant movement, organization, maintenance, and housekeeping.


• Assist the Assay Lead with insect bioassays and experimental studies, including setup, execution, data collection, documentation, and contributions to assay development and optimization in laboratory and greenhouse environments.


• Provide operational support for laboratory assays and experiments. Coordinate weekly research activities with team leads. Assist with laboratory upkeep, equipment maintenance, and implementation of best practices.


• Support field research activities as needed, including tissue sample collection and trial support for Trait Performance programs.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Biology, Biotechnology, Entomology, Genetics, Crop Science, or a related life sciences field.


• Experience in laboratory, greenhouse, and/or agricultural field research, including collecting, processing, and tracking biological samples.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, and data management tools.


• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail to manage large numbers of samples and associated data accurately.


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.


• Effective written and verbal communication skills.


• Ability to perform physical tasks associated with greenhouse and field research, including standing, lifting, carrying materials, and working in varying environmental conditions.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with insect bioassays or assay development in agricultural research.


• Familiarity with greenhouse operations, inventory management, and laboratory best practices.
