Optis Debit SME and API Orchestration Lead, directly embedded
Domain: Banking.
Location: Buffalow, NY/ NY NJ or Wilmington, DE
Visa: Independent.
Own the Optis debit migration path endtoend (not credit)
Challenge and validate Fiserv guidance with facts and prior experience
Drive Spring Boot/API orchestration for inbound auth shielding and outbound maintenance operations
Accelerate retirement of TIBCO ESB by guiding patterns and leading rewrites with backward compatibility
Stabilize delivery replace documentation gaps with executable tests, consistent mappings, and productionready designs
Key Responsibilities
Optis Debit Migration Leadership
Lead solutioning for debit migration to Fiserv Optis, including field mappings, service behaviors, PCF settings, and platform constraints.
Translate ambiguoincorrect Fiserv Developer Studio definitions into validated, testproven API contracts and payload structures.
Define and document shielding patterns for inbound authorization traffic (Optis M&T) through the API layer.
Create and maintain operational runbooks (error codes, retries, idempotency, timeouts, fallbacks, alerting).
API Orchestration & Delivery
Design and build Java Spring Boot microservices for orchestration stateless, scalable, and containerized.
Implement backward-compatible behaviors to minimize channel change (Digital, IVR, Branch).
Lead ESB-to-API refactor (TIBCO Spring Boot), ensuring parity, observability, and resiliency.
Define nonfunctional requirements (performance SLAs, throughput, concurrency, resilience patterns, failure isolation).
Partner with SRE to establish logging, metrics, tracing, and production readiness.
Program Acceleration & Governance
Establish a fact-based Optis knowledge base: tested examples, field dictionaries, PCF mappings, and channel matrices.
Run integration spikes to derisk uncertain areas; build sandbox/test harnesses for empirical validation.
Review designs, code, and test cases; mentor engineers and coach BAs on Optis specifics and orchestration nuances.
Align designs and implementations with enterprise standards used in Garrett s area.
Required Qualifications
5 10+ years in debit card platforms with direct, handson Fiserv Optis (debit) migration/implementation experience.
Must be debit; credit-only experience is not sufficient.
Expert-level Java/Spring Boot for API/microservice development; containerized deployment experience (Docker/K8s/OpenShift).
Demonstrated success building orchestration layers (request routing, transformation, shielding, fault handling).
Experience retiring legacy ESB services and refactoring to API-first architectures.
Strong knowledge of authorization flows, card lifecycle events (lock/unlock, lost/stolen, PIN, status), and core banking touchpoints (e.g., Hogan).
Proven ability to challenge vendor guidance constructively and back it with empirical tests and production evidence.
Deep understanding of API security (gateway-based authN/Z), idempotency, transactional integrity, and backward compatibility strategies.
Exceptional documentation and communication skills; able to align architects, BAs, channels, and vendor teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior experience stabilizing programs that were behind schedule and under-resourced.
Familiarity with Fiserv Developer Studio pitfalls and fieldlevel quirks (incl. PCF mapping).
Observability: OpenTelemetry, distributed tracing, structured logging, servicelevel dashboards.
Messaging/async patterns; resiliency engineering (circuit breakers, retries, bulkheads).
Banking regulatory & operational awareness (SOX, PCI DSS, PII handling, auditability).
