Summary

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior DB2 Database Performance Engineer with deep expertise in DB2 database development, SQL performance tuning, and stored procedure optimization. This is not a traditional DB2 DBA/database maintenance role. We are looking for a hands-on Data Engineer/Database Developer who can analyze, optimize, and modernize DB2 database applications while leveraging Snowflake for cloud data initiatives.

Required Skills

10+ years of hands-on experience with IBM DB2 database development.
Strong expertise in DB2 SQL performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis.
Extensive experience developing, debugging, and refactoring DB2 SQL PL stored procedures.
Ability to troubleshoot database performance issues with a DBA mindset, while remaining focused on application/database development.
Experience identifying database logic that can be modernized and migrated from stored procedures into application code.
Good experience with Snowflake, including Snowflake SQL, virtual warehouses, and query performance optimization.
4+ years of Scala development experience, preferably rewriting or modernizing database business logic.
Strong SQL, data modeling, and ETL/data engineering experience.
Experience working in Agile environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience migrating workloads from DB2 to Snowflake.
Experience with Python, Spark, or other modern data engineering technologies.
Banking or Financial Services experience is a plus.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and optimize complex DB2 SQL queries and database performance.
Develop, enhance, and refactor DB2 stored procedures and SQL PL code.
Perform root cause analysis for SQL performance bottlenecks.
Identify opportunities to move business logic from stored procedures into Scala-based services.
Optimize Snowflake SQL and warehouse performance.
Collaborate with application developers, architects, and DBAs to modernize legacy database applications.
Ensure high-performance, scalable, and maintainable database solutions.
