Role : Enterprise SaaS & Vendor Integration Consultant
Location : Charlotte, NC (Hybrid)
Contract
End Client - Banking client
Experience - 9+ Years
Role Summary
The consultant serves as the hands-on subject matter expert responsible for designing, implementing, and operationalizing integrations for third-party SaaS and vendor applications within a regulated enterprise
This role partners closely with an internal manager (application owner) and drives:
- Technical integration execution
- IAM onboarding design and delivery
- Practical resolution of vendor capability gaps
The consultant is expected to operate autonomously, bringing domain expertise in enterprise SaaS integration patterns.
Key Responsibilities
1) Lead SaaS integration design & execution
- Design and implement integration solutions for vendor platforms, including:
- SSO (SAML/OIDC)
- Provisioning (SCIM, API-based, or hybrid approaches)
- Translate enterprise
constraints into real-world integration architectures, including when: - Vendors lack SCIM
- Custom APIs must be leveraged
This reflects common onboarding scenarios where vendors provide APIs but not standardized provisioning, requiring bespoke integration approaches
2) Own IAM onboarding implementation (hands-on)
- Execute onboarding aligned to enterprise IAM standards:
- Externalize access to IAM platforms (AD / Entra / IGA)
- Eliminate or minimize local accounts
- Configure:
- Authentication integration
- Access models (RBAC via AD groups or equivalent)
- Provisioning / deprovisioning flows
Enterprise target state explicitly requires externalizing access and removing local accounts wherever possible
3) Solve vendor capability gaps (critical part of the role)
- Design solutions where vendor functionality is incomplete, including:
- SCIM gap → API-based provisioning or SCIM gateway pattern
- Limited RBAC models → mapping enterprise roles to vendor constructs
- Recommend and implement viable patterns such as:
- Custom connectors
- Scheduled API sync feeds
- Hybrid SAML + API provisioning models
4) Drive onboarding through enterprise processes
- Navigate and execute onboarding workflows:
- IAM onboarding requirements
- ART / ACT processes (for non-modernized integrations)
- Required architectural and security approvals
- Produce required artifacts:
- Integration architecture documentation
- Access models and control descriptions
- Evidence for onboarding approvals
Non-modernized (manual-heavy) integrations require explicit approvals and structured onboarding process execution
5) Implement security and access controls
- Ensure vendor solutions align to:
- IAM policies (provisioning, recertification, SoD)
- MFA and authentication standards
- Privileged access controls
- Validate:
- Proper entitlement management
- Auditability of access changes
IAM domain explicitly focuses on ensuring “right access to the right resources at the right time” with compliance and audit alignment
6) Support operational readiness & troubleshooting
- Troubleshoot issues across:
- SSO / authentication flows
- Provisioning failures (SCIM/API)
- Role mapping discrepancies
- Stabilize poorly integrated vendor solutions:
- Remove manual processes where possible
- Establish consistent access patterns
Practical troubleshooting of identity vs network vs vendor issues is a core expectation in this domain
7) Partner with internal stakeholders & vendors
- Work across:
- IAM engineering
- InfoSec / risk
- Networking
- Application owners and business users
- Interface directly with vendors to:
- Clarify capabilities
- Push for enhancements
- Align integration design
Required Expertise
Technical
- Strong experience with:
- SAML / OIDC authentication
- SCIM provisioning (or alternatives)
- REST APIs for user / role management
- Experience integrating SaaS platforms into enterprise IAM environments
Domain (critical differentiator)
- Deep understanding of:
- IAM lifecycle (joiner / mover / leaver)
- Enterprise access models (RBAC, SoD)
- Audit and compliance expectations in regulated environments
Practical
- Experience working around:
- Non-ideal vendor capabilities
- Hybrid identity models
- Manual-to-automated migration patterns
Engagement model (important for your setup)
- Consultant operates as:
- Execution lead and SME
- Manager retains:
- Ownership
- stakeholder alignment
- prioritization
- Consultant expected to:
- Drive work forward independently
- Propose solutions (not just implement)
- Reduce decision burden on manager
