Job Summary

Develops engineering solutions across operations, product development, construction, and maintenance environments to enhance efficiency and performance. Analyzes engineering processes and identifies opportunities to improve system reliability, safety, and cost-effectiveness. Implements multidisciplinary engineering practices to optimize functionality and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as lead engineer for on-site field projects to provide oversight for installation of accessories, grounding schemes and various components inside manholes and on termination structures. This includes working with field teams on-site to facilitate engineered solutions and ensure all components are installed in accordance with cable system design as well as customer requirements.
  • Design complete cable system solutions, including the cable, accessories, link boxes, fiber optic components, grounding details and bonding schemes for voltage classes 69kV up to 500kV, using advanced computer programs, analytical techniques, or control strategies to effectively meet project/bid requirements.
  • Participate in the preparation of specifications, proposals for contracts, licensing and safety documents, and obtain required approvals in cooperation with the Sales & Marketing and Project Management teams.
  • Under the guidance of the Engineering Manager, act as technical lead on design aspects of HV project execution working in collaboration with Southwire's Field Services and Manufacturing teams.
  • Represent the High Voltage Engineering group in meetings and conferences; interact with customers to provide training seminars as well as resolve significant technical issues and develop related action plans.
  • Promote safety in the workplace and all project sites following Southwire's Culture of ZERO.
  • Familiarity with requirements of ICEA, AEIC, IEC and IEEE standards, as well as thermal, mechanical and electrical field calculations is desirable.
  • Familiarity with software packages including CYMCAP, SolidWorks Pro, AutoCAD, Matlab and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings. Strong technical writing ability and solid communication skills. Requires the ability to interface effectively both internally and with customers.
  • Mentos junior field engineers, sharing best practices, troubleshooting techniques, and industry knowledge to foster professional development and enhance team performance.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards in all field service operations, conducting regular training and audits to maintain the highest level of operational safety and effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education & Experience

Minimum Education Level: Bachelor's

Specialized Degree: Electrical/Mechanical Engineering

Years of Experience: 5+

Field of Expertise: Field operations, HV cable systems preferred
