Test Engineer ILocation: On-site / Lab-Based

About the RoleWe're seeking a
Test Engineer I to join a fast-paced hardware R&D testing environment. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role ideal for early-career engineers who enjoy working in the lab, running structured tests, and generating high-quality data that directly influences product development and lifecycle improvements.
You'll support engineering teams by executing test plans, operating lab equipment, documenting results, and contributing to feasibility, characterization, materials, and design verification testing. This role offers excellent exposure to real-world product development and foundational growth in test engineering practices.
What You'll Do- Execute structured test tickets with consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Operate and maintain a variety of lab equipment, including:
- Microscopes
- Tensile testers
- Multimeters
- Oscilloscopes
- Environmental chambers
- Collect, analyze, and document test data in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
- Support failure analysis efforts by generating clear, reliable, and repeatable test results
- Assist with troubleshooting test setups and equipment issues
- Collaborate closely with R&D and engineering teams to support ongoing development efforts
- Contribute to small projects and continuous improvement initiatives across the testing lifecycle
Top Skills & Experience- Hands-on electromechanical testing experience
- Strong discipline in test execution and data integrity
- Accurate data collection and technical documentation skills
- Basic CAD knowledge (SolidWorks, OnShape, or similar)
- Ability to follow test protocols and adapt to evolving priorities
Preferred Qualifications- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple test activities
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for reports and protocols
- Comfortable working early or late shifts as testing schedules require

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $40.00 - $42.00/hr.
