Summary

The CIAM (Auth0) Consultant serves as the technical lead for enterprise Customer Identity and Access Management (CIAM) initiatives. This role is responsible for translating business, security, application, and customer experience requirements into secure, scalable Auth0 architectures.
This Auth0 Consultant leads technical delivery teams, owns end-to-end solution architecture, guides application and user migrations, and works directly with client architects, security teams, application owners, and business stakeholders. The role requires deep hands-on Auth0 expertise combined with strong knowledge of modern application architecture, identity standards, API security, DevOps, and CIAM operating models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for enterprise CIAM implementations using Auth0.
  • Own end-to-end Auth0 architecture, including tenant strategy, environments, organizations, connections, applications, APIs, identity stores, extensibility, and integration patterns.
  • Design secure and scalable customer identity experiences covering registration, authentication, SSO, federation, MFA, passwordless authentication, account recovery, progressive profiling, and profile management.
  • Define authentication and authorization architectures using OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, JWTs, scopes, claims, roles, permissions, and API access-control patterns.
  • Design B2C and B2B CIAM architectures, including enterprise federation, partner identity, Auth0 Organizations, multi-brand and multi-application environments, and complex customer hierarchies.
  • Develop strategies for migrating users, applications, identity providers, APIs, and authentication flows from legacy identity platforms to Auth0 with minimal customer disruption.
  • Design user migration approaches including bulk migration, just-in-time/progressive migration, password migration, account linking, identity reconciliation, coexistence, cutover, and rollback strategies.
  • Architect Auth0 extensibility using Actions, custom integrations, APIs, SDKs, and event-driven patterns while minimizing unnecessary customization.
  • Lead integration of Auth0 with web applications, SPAs, mobile applications, backend services, APIs, partner applications, and third-party platforms.
  • Provide architectural guidance for securing APIs and machine-to-machine integrations, including token design, audience and scope strategy, service identities, token lifecycle, and least-privilege access.
  • Design Auth0 CI/CD and deployment strategies, including configuration-as-code, source control, environment promotion, automated testing, secrets management, and deployment governance.
  • Establish Auth0 tenant and environment management standards across development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Define logging, monitoring, alerting, auditing, troubleshooting, and operational support strategies, including integration with enterprise SIEM and observability platforms.
  • Develop CIAM security architectures addressing credential attacks, bot and abuse scenarios, MFA strategy, session security, token security, secrets management, and identity threat detection.
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise security, privacy, regulatory, data residency, and compliance requirements.
  • Facilitate architecture workshops, technical discovery sessions, design reviews, and whiteboarding sessions with client stakeholders.
  • Produce and review solution architecture documents, detailed designs, integration specifications, authentication flows, sequence diagrams, migration strategies, deployment plans, and operational runbooks.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to CIAM engineers and consultants, including architecture, design, and code reviews.
  • Support presales activities as needed, including technical discovery, solution design, estimates, demonstrations, proofs of concept, and proposal development.

Requirements

  • 7 years of experience in Identity and Access Management, application security, software architecture, or related technology roles.
  • 3 years of hands-on Auth0 experience preferred, including designing and implementing production CIAM solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as the technical architect or lead engineer for complex CIAM implementations.
  • Deep knowledge of Auth0 capabilities including Universal Login, Actions, Organizations, Connections, Enterprise Federation, MFA, passwordless authentication, APIs, Management API, Authentication API, and Auth0 SDKs.
  • Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), SAML 2.0, JWT, PKCE, SCIM, federation, session management, and modern authentication patterns.
  • Strong understanding of authorization concepts including RBAC, scopes, claims, permissions, API authorization, and fine-grained authorization patterns.
  • Experience designing CIAM solutions for high-volume, internet-facing applications with requirements for scalability, availability, security, and customer experience.
  • Hands-on experience integrating identity into SPAs, web applications, mobile applications, APIs, microservices, and machine-to-machine workloads.
  • Strong proficiency with JavaScript/Node.js and experience working with REST APIs, JSON, JWTs, SDKs, and modern web application frameworks.
  • Experience designing and implementing CI/CD and configuration management for Auth0 using technologies such as Terraform, Auth0 Deploy CLI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or equivalent platforms.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform and familiarity with cloud-native application architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience developing user and application migration strategies from legacy IAM/CIAM platforms to Auth0.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex authentication, federation, token, browser/session, and application integration issues.
  • Strong consulting and client-facing skills with the ability to communicate complex identity concepts to architects, developers, security teams, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead technical workshops and independently drive architectural decisions while collaborating effectively with client architecture and security teams.
  • Strong written communication skills and experience producing enterprise architecture and detailed technical design documentation.
