Summary

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Process Engineer 2 - Global Service/Reverse Logistics at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for global Reverse Logistics operations including but not limited to, Receipt and disposition, recertification, repair, rework and recycling/reclamation. The Global Service Team develops efficient processes and programs to ensure Garmin's customers are supported and are back enjoying their Garmin products as soon as possible.

Essential Functions
  • Assembles, maintains, and supports test equipment and procedures
  • Monitors test metrics and escalates improvement opportunities
  • Supports R&D efforts for new automation concepts
  • Assists in designing, testing, and validating recertification and repair processes
  • Supports equipment integration and I/O setup
  • Develops basic software applications with direction
  • Applies foundational knowledge of production processes
  • Collaborates with automation and design engineering teams with supervision
  • Supports interactions with Product Support Service Strategy team
  • Follows established procedures to ensure compliance with product specifications
  • Creates and maintains revision-controlled documentation
  • Assists in project coordination and task tracking
  • Helps train operators using established materials
  • Troubleshoots known issues and escalates complex problems
  • May perform as leader for small-to-sub projects as part of greater project, following established procedures
  • Utilizes expert CAD software skills to model complex tools
  • Develops more complex process instructions for manufacturing associates
  • Estimates level of effort for a task including calculating build times
  • Attends continuous improvement meetings and serves as member of Kaizen teams
  • Collaborates and adds value through participation in design reviews; applies design for manufacturability guidelines and provides alternative solutions as appropriate
  • Assesses factory associates for certification to a process
  • Develops designed experiments for process and quality improvements
  • Analyzes processes for quality improvements and provides justification for purchases as needed
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with vendors that produce custom parts or equipment
  • Analyzes data to determine quality trends, finds technical root causes and implements corrective actions
  • Designs custom tooling as needed for specific applications
  • Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
  • Mentors less-experienced process engineers (Process Engineer 1)
  • Applies a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion
  • Cleanliness zone area requirements: This position requires Garmin provided personal protective equipment including SD shoes (Static Dissipative Footwear) to be always worn for an entire shift to minimize the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) and meet specified standards.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Computer Engineering or related field AND a minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
  • Demonstrates full use of industry standards and procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency and knowledge in use of engineering tools
  • Demonstrated use of Lean techniques in process development
  • Excellent problem-solving ability
  • Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
  • Demonstrated strong, clear and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Desired Qualifications
  • Previous work or internship experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous experience with AS9100 and NADCAP
