This is a fully remote position, allowing you to work from home or location of record within the U.S. with no in-office requirements.? Position Overview

The Senior Software Test Engineer serves as a technical leader in our Quality Assurance organization. As a senior member of our team, you'll architect comprehensive testing strategies, lead cross-functional initiatives, and mentor junior engineers while driving quality excellence across multiple product areas. This role represents a significant opportunity to shape our quality practices and contribute to engineering excellence at scale.

About the Team

We are looking for a Senior Software Test Engineer to join our Recruiting Engineering team. The team is responsible for building and maintaining a highly scalable, secure, and reliable platform that supports the development, deployment, and management of applications across the Recruiting ecosystem. Recruiting is a key growth driver for the Paylocity Suite, and we are dedicated to delivering innovative, high-quality solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers while maintaining the highest standards of performance and security.

Primary Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

Architect and implement comprehensive automated testing frameworks across multiple feature domains

Lead strategic test planning for complex epics and feature sets, considering technical dependencies and risk mitigation

Design and optimize scalable test solutions ensuring reliability and maintainability

Drive defect prevention strategies and quality initiatives across multiple teams

Collaborate with cross-functional groups to identify and address testing bottlenecks

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers

Develop and maintain comprehensive test coverage strategies

Balance quality objectives with release timelines effectively

Act as a quality champion, embedding quality principles early in the development lifecycle

Drive continuous improvement in testing processes and automation frameworks

Represent QA interests in architectural discussions and technical decisions

Team Collaboration

Contribute and participate in opportunities for technical innovation and experimentation

Collaborate with product owners on feature requirements

Participate in hiring and interviewing processes

Growth & Development

Lead technical discussions and architectural decisions for test automation

Mentor junior engineers in testing best practices and automation

Drive quality initiatives across multiple teams

Provide technical guidance on testing strategies

Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives and standards

Education and Experience

Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

Minimum 5+ years of experience in software testing and automation

Technical Skills

Advanced proficiency in automated testing frameworks and tools

Strong knowledge of software design patterns and architecture

Experience with cloud-based testing environments

Deep understanding of performance and security testing concepts

Proficiency in CI/CD tools and pipeline optimization

Version control systems expertise (Git preferred)

Database concepts and SQL knowledge

Strong programming skills in an automation framework (Cypress, Playwright, Selenium)

Deep understanding of software architecture patterns and system design

Experience leading testing efforts for large-scale applications

Strong technical leadership and mentoring skills

Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities

Experience with agile development methodologies

Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Physical requirements

Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.

Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems, and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.

The pay range for this position is $97,900- $139,800/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual restricted stock unit grant based on individual performance in addition to a full range of benefits outlined here.
