Senior Security Engineer

Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Security Engineer to strengthen our cloud security program in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This position focuses on protecting Azure and Microsoft 365 environments through strong identity controls, proactive threat defense, and resilient security architecture. The ideal candidate brings a practical approach to securing enterprise platforms, improving operational efficiency, and partnering across teams to reduce risk in a regulated business environment.

Responsibilities:
Architect and support secure Azure and Microsoft 365 environments with a focus on protecting identities, data, and core cloud services.
Establish and refine access governance by implementing conditional access strategies, role-based permissions, and zero trust security practices.
Investigate security alerts, assess suspicious activity, and coordinate response efforts using enterprise monitoring and endpoint protection platforms.
Perform vulnerability reviews and strengthen cloud security posture through continuous assessment and remediation planning.
Create and maintain automation scripts in PowerShell, Python, or similar languages to improve security operations and repeatable administrative tasks.
Work closely with DevOps and infrastructure teams to embed security controls into CI/CD workflows using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Bicep, and GitHub Actions.
Support alignment with recognized security frameworks and compliance expectations applicable to regulated operating environments.
Troubleshoot advanced issues spanning cloud platforms, networking, and security technologies to maintain reliable and secure operations.
Prepare accurate technical documentation, including environment configurations, response procedures, and incident summaries.
Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to deliver security initiatives, drive best practices, and advance infrastructure protection efforts.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in IT operations, including at least 2 years in cloud security, cybersecurity engineering, or a closely related role.
Hands-on experience administering Azure and securing Microsoft 365 enterprise environments.
Practical knowledge of identity and access management, incident response, and cloud security configuration.
Experience working with security platforms such as Microsoft Defender, Entra ID, SentinelOne, Rapid7, Fortinet, or similar enterprise tools.
Familiarity with firewall technologies and network security concepts, including platforms such as Check Point or Cisco ASA.
Scripting or automation experience using PowerShell, Python, or comparable tools.
Understanding of secure configuration management, threat protection, and vulnerability management in cloud-first environments.
Strong communication skills with the ability to document technical processes and collaborate effectively across teams.
