Lead IBM i / Power Systems Engineer

Genesis10 is seeking a Lead IBM i / Power Systems Engineer for a full-time, direct-hire position with a client located in the Milwaukee, WI area (preferred onsite location: Menasha/Oshkosh, WI).

This position follows a hybrid work model, requiring three days onsite per week. Relocation assistance is available for non-local candidates. Approved work locations include Menasha/Oshkosh, WI (preferred), Frederick, MD; New Hudson-Smith, MI; Huntersville, NC; McConnellsburg, PA; and Pittsburgh, PA.

Compensation: $120,000 - $125,000 per year + bonus plan

Summary:
The Lead IBM i Platform & Systems Engineer provides advanced technical leadership for enterprise IBM Power environments supporting mission-critical ERP platforms. This role operates at a designer/engineering level, owning end-to-end platform architecture across hardware, virtualization, operating systems, storage, and HA/DR. The ideal candidate approaches problems with an engineering mindset and drives modernization through automation, observability, security, and resiliency initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the escalation point for complex operational support, troubleshooting, security enforcement, and performance tuning across IBM Power systems and IBM i OS environments.
• Provide technical leadership and end-to-end ownership of IBM Power servers, IBM i OS partitions, HMC, VIOS, and IBM DS storage arrays.
• Administer IBM VIOS environments, including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Drive adoption of observability and AIOps practices to improve monitoring, reduce mean time to resolution, and proactively identify platform issues.
• Advance automation initiatives using Infrastructure-as-Code (Ansible, CL scripting) to streamline patching, compliance, and operational workflows.
• Design, test, deploy, and support HA/DR solutions (MIMIX or similar) to ensure ERP availability and business continuity.
• Mentor team members and collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to support platform modernization initiatives.
• Participate in after-hours and weekend work during patching cycles, OS upgrades, and on-call rotations as required.

Qualifications:

• Five (5) or more years of experience in IBM i OS and IBM Power environments.
• Proven expertise with HMC, MIMIX HA/DR, VIOS, and IBM DS storage.
• Strong understanding of ITIL processes, incident management, and stakeholder engagement.
• Demonstrated skills in advanced troubleshooting, CL scripting, and infrastructure/platform design.
• Strong leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work standard business hours with flexibility for off-hours support as needed.

Standout Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience managing IBM i OS and IBM Power hardware environments.
• Experience implementing observability and AIOps initiatives to improve platform stability and incident response.
• Familiarity with Fortra products (Alert, Console, Compliance Monitor, Exit Point Manager) or similar tools.
• Background in driving platform security initiatives and automating compliance controls.
• Only candidates available and ready to work directly as Genesis10 employees will be considered for this position.
• Able to work as a W2 employee of Genesis10 (no corp to corp).
