Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Common Database (CDB) / Terrain Database Engineer to support terrain and geospatial database creation using industry-standard tools. This role focuses on preparing and converting customer-provided source data into compliant CDB outputs, supporting automation workflows, and troubleshooting existing database creation issues.

This is an immediate, short-term engagement (approximately 2 months) with potential opportunities to contribute to additional programs based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare and validate customer-provided source data for CDB creation using Terra Vista

Support automation of source data preparation workflows

Troubleshoot, remediate, and optimize existing CDB creation issues

Set up and manage Terra Vista projects and building databases

Import, edit, and manage vector, imagery, elevation, and 3D model datasets

Configure Levels of Detail (LODs) and generate CDB-compliant outputs

Ensure accurate source data attribution and metadata consistency

Convert and integrate heterogeneous geospatial data formats while resolving
projection, resolution, and LOD mismatches

Export terrain and model data into standard formats such as OpenFlight

Required Tools & Technologies

Terrain & Modeling Tools

Terra Vista (Experience with versions 6.0 and/or 22.0 preferred)

Creator (OpenFlight)

GIS & Geospatial Tools

ArcGIS, QGIS, or Global Mapper

Texture & Image Editing Tools

GIMP, Adobe Photoshop

Required Skills & Qualifications

CDB & Terra Vista Expertise (Critical Skillset)

Hands-on experience with Terra Vista

Strong understanding of Terra Vista workflows, including:

Project and building database setup

Importing source data

Editing vectors and 3D features

Configuring LODs

Running and generating building datasets

Proven experience creating CDB-compliant databases using Terra Vista

CDB Specifications & Structure

Solid understanding of Common Database (CDB) specifications, including:

Folder structures

Data layers

Tiling

Versioning

Experience generating CDB outputs from source imagery, elevation, and GIS data

Geospatial Data Preparation & Management

Experience working with:

Raster imagery

Elevation data (DEM/DTED)

Vector datasets

Proficiency using GIS and image-editing tools for data preparation and refinement

Data Conversion & Interoperability

Importing data from heterogeneous geospatial formats

Resolving coordinate system, projection, and LOD mismatches
Exporting and integrating data into industry-standard formats such as OpenFlight
