Summary

Quality Control Technician - Electrical Assemblies & Wire Harnesses

Location: Orlando FL
Pay: $19-$23 hourly

Position Summary

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for inspecting, testing, and verifying the quality and compliance of wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical products throughout the manufacturing process. This role ensures products meet engineering specifications, workmanship standards, customer requirements, and internal quality procedures. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of electrical assemblies, blueprint interpretation, inspection techniques, and documentation practices.

Key Responsibilities

Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections of wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical products.
Verify assemblies conform to engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of materials, work instructions, and customer specifications.
Inspect wire routing, wire gauge, color coding, labeling, connector orientation, pin assignments, polarity, and overall workmanship.
Evaluate crimp quality, solder joints, connector terminations, heat-shrink installation, cable protection, and assembly integrity.
Conduct continuity, point-to-point, insulation, polarity, and functional testing using multimeters, continuity testers, and dedicated test equipment.
Identify, document, and report product defects, nonconformances, workmanship issues, and drawing discrepancies.
Generate and maintain inspection reports, test records, nonconformance reports (NCRs), and other quality documentation.
Review completed production paperwork for accuracy, completeness, and traceability requirements.
Verify material identification, lot control, and product traceability documentation.
Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to investigate quality issues and implement corrective actions.
Support root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Verify reworked and repaired assemblies meet quality standards before release.
Ensure compliance with established quality procedures, safety requirements, and industry workmanship standards.
Assist with audits, process inspections, and quality system activities as required.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of 3-5 years of quality inspection experience in electrical assembly, wire harness manufacturing, cable assembly, or related electromechanical manufacturing environments.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, engineering drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions.
Experience inspecting wiring harnesses, cable assemblies, connectors, and electrical components.
Proficiency using inspection and test equipment including digital multimeters, continuity testers, calipers, and related measurement tools.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify workmanship defects and specification deviations.
Experience documenting inspection findings and maintaining quality records.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a manufacturing environment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting quality control activities for aerospace, defense, medical device, industrial automation, robotics, photonics, or other high-reliability industries.
Knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 wire harness and cable assembly standards.
IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification.
J-STD-001 certification or training.
Familiarity with ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality management systems.
Experience using dedicated harness test systems and documenting test results.
Knowledge of root cause analysis and corrective action processes.

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing inspection and testing activities.
Ability to perform repetitive hand movements when handling small components and testing equipment.
Ability to visually inspect small components, wire colors, markings, labels, and workmanship details with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
Ability to move throughout the production floor and between inspection stations as needed.
