As the storytellers of South Carolina, the South Carolina State Museum (SCSM) strives to share the rich natural and cultural diversity of the state through its permanent collections, programs, and exhibitions? The SCSM is the largest museum in South Carolina, stewarding over 1.1 million objects and specimens and welcoming 5 million+ visitors over its 37-year history. The museum has embarked on a renovation of 150,000 square feet of its exhibition, programmatic and collection storage spaces occupying four floors of a historic 1890s textile mill on the National Register of Historic Places. The SCSM is seeking an IT Customer Support Specialist. This position serves as the primary front-line technical support resource for staff and operations at the South Carolina State Museum. Responsibilities include:
- Receiving and documenting technical support requests through phone, email, ticketing system, or in person.
- Troubleshooting and resolving issues involving workstations, mobile devices, peripherals, software applications, and basic network connectivity.
- Assisting with account creation, access permissions, password resets, and onboarding tasks.
- Performing routine maintenance, software updates, and workstation configuration.
- Escalating more complex or unresolved issues to higher-level support teams.
- Tracking and documenting all work in the museum's service management system.
- Supporting IT projects, technology deployments, exhibit technology needs, and user trainings.
- Developing or updating knowledge base articles, FAQs, and user guides.
Minimum and Additional Requirements- A bachelor's degree in information technology systems or other related field of study or associate's degree and experience in the information technology field; relevant experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
- Must be able to work some nights and weekends
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications- Experience in a help desk or IT support environment.
- Knowledge of Windows operating systems, Microsoft 365, and common business applications.
- Familiarity with IT service management systems and workflows.
- Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or equivalent.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Experience supporting specialized environments such as museum exhibit technology is a plus.
