Programmer - Junior P/A - AS400 or Cobol

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Allen, TX that is seeking a Programmer - Junior P/A - AS400 or Cobol.

Summary:
We are seeking a Programmer/Analyst to support the implementation and maintenance of core banking software used by financial institutions across the U.S. This is a remote, part-time contract-to-hire opportunity (30 hours/week) offering long-term stability, hands-on technical work, and the potential to convert to a full-time role based on performance.

In this role, you will work alongside experienced programmers and analysts on new system installations, upgrades, and ongoing support initiatives. The primary focus will be installing and supporting deposit escrow and sweep-related systems, with additional responsibilities during non-install cycles.

This position supports financial institutions and requires strong attention to quality, reliability, and compliance. Work hours are approximately 30 hours per week, with flexible scheduling that overlaps standard business hours. While remote, candidates must be available for potential in-person onboarding or interviews if required.

REQUIREMENTS:
* 2+ years of relevant programming or systems experience (internship, apprenticeship, or co-op acceptable)
* Working knowledge of AS400 / IBM i environments
* Familiarity with AS400 commands
* Basic understanding of RPG syntax and program structure
* Exposure to software installation, testing, or system support activities
* Ability to troubleshoot, debug, and analyze system issues
* Strong documentation and communication skills
* Willingness to learn and grow within a regulated financial environment

Nice to Have:
* Experience working with Windows Server environments
* Familiarity with mainframe systems
* Ability to read or interpret COBOL code
* Exposure to banking or financial services technology
* Programming or software-related certifications (or interest in pursuing them)

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
