About This Job

At CarMax, we are industry disruptors. At the heart of our innovation is a new generation of digital products. As part of our Cloud Platform Engineering team, our engineers research and discover new opportunities to ensure the products that power our seamless customer experience have a strong technical foundation. You will iterate on and evolve the cloud platform and the tools used to manage it, learning quickly through a spirit of experimentation.

You will help ensure our applications are reliable and resilient by applying modern cloud concepts and technologies. Through strong partnership with other engineers, you will contribute to the broader CarMax technology strategy as we build and deliver an exceptional customer experience - helping customers buy the vehicles they want, in the way that's right for them.

What You Will Do - Essential Responsibilities

  • Work closely with internal and external team members to develop business capabilities and automation that enable internal customers to move quickly and deliver on business needs.
  • Collaborate with other engineers on design, product management, and systems architecture to develop experimental solutions and bring great ideas to life.
  • Share ideas internally and evolve them based on feedback and critique within an agile environment.
  • Continually evolve the platform and its operations using solid engineering and agile practices.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices to continuously improve how we work and ensure our customer experience is the best it can be.
  • Leverage emerging AI technologies to gain efficiencies and increase time to market for deliverables that enable business capabilities.

You will be results-oriented, data-driven, and comfortable contributing ideas and influencing outcomes through sound engineering judgment rather than formal authority. You'll take ownership of your piece of the technology roadmap, partnering with teammates on short-term delivery and longer-term platform decisions that shape CarMax's technology journey. You should be passionate about availability, security, and data privacy, and energized by building a robust, well-engineered technology environment.

You'll contribute to a cross-functional effort to modernize legacy systems, leverage AI technologies, and build scalable platforms that streamline operations and enhance the associate and customer experience.

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience.

  • Demonstrable experience with a range of cloud capabilities including storage, key/secret management, virtual networking, web apps, identity and access management, virtual machines, and automated deployments.
  • Demonstrable experience with software development, preferably in one or more of the following: .NET, .NET Core, C# and PowerShell.
