Job Details

York Space Systems was founded to radically improve spacecraft affordability and reliability, transforming, and enabling next- generation space mission operations worldwide. Today, York is one of the most innovative aerospace companies, specializing in end-to-end customer solutions and the rapid production of spacecraft platforms. York's complete Space Segment Solution includes spacecraft production, payload integration, system integration & test, launch services, ground segment services, and mission operations, enabling customers to leverage York's existing technology solutions to get to orbit rapidly and responsively. We're looking to expand our team across the board.

York Space Systems is looking for talented Electro-Optical (EO) Engineers with 2-8 years' experience. Title & compensation is commensurate with years of experience.

York EO Engineers work closely with our technology partners for detailed assessment of optical link budgets, optical system performance, and cross-vendor interoperability. The ideal candidate looks forward to being a leader for applied optical physics both internally and externally to the organization across an entire program lifecycle.

As an EO engineer at York, you will experience the full EO system life cycle from proposal to on-orbit commissioning, with a mixture of hands-on hardware activities and at the desk analysis activities, directly contributing to making on-orbit optical links.

This is a systems integrator role that is vendor and customer facing, not a design role.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shape how the organization implements and enables EO links and payloads
  • Act as an organization-wide resource for optical physics expertise.
  • Ensure that EO products meet requirements and the mission.
  • Create optical communications link budgets and analyze EO sensor performance
  • Support AIT through non-conformance disposition, as-run review, and master test procedure/plan reviews.
  • Support cross-vendor interoperability assessments and troubleshooting
  • Support of on-orbit EO payload anomaly resolution & commissioning activities
  • Support vendor milestone reviews & non-conformance disposition
  • Support major milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, etc.
  • Advise, shape, and implement free-space EO payload test strategies
  • Understand & promote EO payload & fiber optic cable best-handling practices
  • Will require some travel to support testing and launch.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience for EO Engineer II
  • 6+ years of experience for EO Engineer Senior II
  • Prior experience with development and test of precision electro-optical systems.
  • A basic understanding of the components that enable a free-space laser system
  • Proficient understanding of fiber-coupled and free-space optical physics
  • A basic understanding of laser safety methods and criteria
  • Familiarity with common Optical test equipment (Scopes, Spectrum Analyzer, etc.)
  • Ability to script using Python and work with version control systems (Git)
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced team environment
  • Must have, or a willingness to obtain, a DoD Security Clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants meeting one or more of the below criteria are preferred.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance
  • Master's Degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, RF Engineering, or related field.
  • Prior experience in the design, integration, and/or testing of EO payloads (e.g. IR, optical comm) for space applications.
  • Knowledge of basic communication theory principles

Benefits
In addition to compensation, York Space Systems is proud to offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance along with PTO and a 401K.
