Job TItle: Capacity Manager

Location: Plano, TX (Hybrid)

Job Description:

Client is seeking a highly experienced Senior IT Capacity Manager to provide endtoend capacity, performance, and resiliency leadership across a major Line of Business within Global Technology & Operations. This senior individual contributor role ensures that critical banking platforms spanning distributed systems, VMware ESX, and internal external cloud platforms maintain the capacity, scalability, and resiliency required to support the bank s operational, regulatory, and customer commitments.

The contractor must bring 15+ years of deep technical experience, including Business Continuity, Resiliency/Disaster Recovery (DR) capacity planning, system design and infrastructure architecture, and capacity management experience in hardware reclamation ensuring efficient lifecycle management, decommissioning, and reuse of compute, storage, and network assets across data centers.

This role aligns to ITIL-based service management framework and carries significant technical authority, though it includes no direct people-management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Hybrid Infrastructure Capacity Leadership

  • Lead capacity planning and performance engineering across:
    • Distributed compute platforms (Linux/Windows, clustered systems, high-throughput workloads)
    • VMware ESX infrastructure (clusters, hosts, vSAN, HA/DRS, resource pools)
    • Internal cloud/container platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift, microservices)
    • External cloud environments (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform, PaaS/SaaS)
  • Use enterprise observability, telemetry, and APM tools to identify saturation points, performance bottlenecks, and optimization opportunities.

Resiliency & Disaster Recovery Capacity Planning

  • Ensure capacity sufficiency for client resiliency strategies, including:
    • Active/active and active/passive architectures
    • Multidatacenter failover and crosssite workload mobility
    • RTO/RPO alignment and regulatory resiliency requirements
    • Storage replication, crosssite network capacity, and fail-over readiness
  • Ability to model DR environments can sustain full LOB workloads during failover events, regulatory testing, and crisis scenarios.

System Design & Infrastructure Architecture Influence

  • Apply strong system design and infrastructure architecture expertise to guide:
    • Platform scalability and performance engineering
    • Highavailability and resiliency patterns
    • Cloud modernization and hybrid architecture decisions
    • Infrastructure lifecycle and capacity investment planning
    • Business volume collection and workload characterization
  • Influence architecture and engineering teams to embed capacity, resiliency, and performance considerations into platform designs.

Forecasting, Modeling & Demand Management

  • Build multiyear capacity forecasts aligned to business growth, regulatory drivers, and technology modernization initiatives.
  • Develop predictive models for compute, storage, network, and container resource consumption.
  • Translate business demand into infrastructure requirements and capital planning recommendations.

Hardware Reclamation & Lifecycle Capacity Management

  • Lead capacity planning for hardware reclamation, including:
    • Identifying underutilized, endoflife, or decommissioneligible assets
    • Partnering with data center operations to reclaim, repurpose, or retire hardware
    • Ensuring reclaimed capacity is reintegrated into planning models
    • Supporting lifecycle optimization, cost reduction, and sustainability initiatives
  • Maintain accurate capacity inventories and ensure reclamation activities align with Client asset governance and risk controls.

Performance Engineering & Risk Management

  • Identify capacity risks, systemic constraints, and performance degradation patterns across hybrid environments.
  • Drive remediation plans with engineering, operations, and platform teams to maintain service stability and meet client resiliency standards.
  • Support incident and problem management with deep technical analysis of capacityrelated events.

Governance, Reporting & ITIL Alignment

  • Own the ITIL-aligned Capacity & Performance Management process for the assigned LOB.
  • Produce executive-ready dashboards, risk summaries, and capacity health reports for senior technology leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and operational risk requirements.

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership (No Direct Reports)

  • Serve as the capacity authority for the LOB, influencing engineering, architecture, resiliency, and cloud strategy decisions.
  • Partner with Finance, Enterprise Architecture, and Technology Operations on cost optimization, rightsizing, reclamation planning, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide technical mentorship to analysts and engineers through expertise not administrative oversight.
  • Agile experience and lead a mature agile team

How This Contractor Role Differs From a Capacity Analyst

  • Owns strategic capacity direction for an entire LOB.
  • Drives architecture, resiliency, reclamation, and investment decisions across hybrid platforms.
  • Accountable for capacity risk posture, DR readiness, and longterm forecasting.
  • Works across distributed systems, ESX, internal cloud, and external cloud, not a single platform.
  • Engages directly with senior engineering, resiliency, and business leaders.

Required Qualifications

  • 15+ years in capacity management, performance engineering, infrastructure engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Deep expertise with VMware ESX, distributed compute platforms, and container orchestration (Kubernetes/OpenShift).
  • Strong background in system design, infrastructure architecture, and highavailability engineering.
  • Proven experience with Resiliency/Disaster Recovery capacity planning across multidatacenter environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in hardware reclamation, asset lifecycle planning, and capacity optimization.
  • Strong understanding of cloud capacity models (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and hybrid cloud architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with performance telemetry, observability platforms, and capacity modeling tools.
  • Strong knowledge of ITIL Capacity & Performance Management and enterprise governance frameworks.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical findings to senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications

  • ITIL v4 certification.
  • Experience in large financial institutions or other regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with FinOps, cloud cost optimization, and chargeback/showback models.
  • Experience with automation frameworks for scaling, forecasting, reclamation, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience with PowerBI, Splunk and Jira.
