Role: WDS Architect
Location San Antonio, TX (Onsite)
Duration: Long Term Contract
Position Summary
The WDS Architect will lead architecture efforts for collaboration platforms and ecosystems, establish standards and governance, and partner with stakeholders and engineering teams to define current and target state architectures and a 3 year roadmap for the domain.
Key Responsibilities:
Stakeholder & Community Engagement
- Meet business stakeholders and engineering teams to capture perspectives and align direction.
- Engage with the IT Architecture community through formal and informal venues.
- Brief business stakeholders and present architecture recommendations to leadership.
Domain Assessment & Road mapping
- Familiarize with the domain; review current and past domain assessments.
- Document a new domain assessment including current state, gaps, risks, and recommendations.
- Develop and showcase a 3 year roadmap with current state and target state architectures and a transition plan.
Standards, Decisions & Governance
- Create and maintain Standards, Waivers, Tech Decisions, and Assessments.
- Understand and apply architecture processes and governance (equivalent to established organizational practices).
- Contribute to Business of Architecture activities: set direction, govern direction, and govern portfolio processes.
- Support governance processes for app approval, data classification, and lifecycle policies.
Process & Risk Participation
- Support and participate in TPA, TPRM, and CRP processes in the architect's role.
- Drive technical decisions and ensure alignment with established standards and waivers.
- Review and proof artifacts with peer architects, Tech Fellow, Director, and engineering community.
Technical Expertise & Platform Experience
- Deep experience with major collaboration suites:
- Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange)
- Slack Enterprise Grid
- Zoom
- Box
- Experience with collaboration telemetry, analytics, and adoption dashboards; knowledge of the Aternity platform.
- Understanding of platform extensibility: AI features, APIs, app frameworks, bots, workflows.
- Ability to evaluate SaaS vendors, licensing models, and feature roadmaps.
- Expertise in identity and access management (e.g., Azure AD, Okta), including conditional access, MFA, SSO, and least privilege models.
- Familiarity with secure data handling practices: DLP and encryption.
- Solution architecture skills: translate business requirements into scalable architectures and define functional/nonfunctional requirements (performance, availability, compliance).
- Road mapping & governance expertise: define platform roadmaps with versioning and deprecation plans.
