Summary

Overview

We are seeking an expert-level Senior Data Engineer to design and build a modern data foundation that transforms complex healthcare data into trusted, connected, and analytics-ready intelligence. This role plays a critical part in supporting regulatory reporting, enterprise analytics, and long-term interoperability strategy.
You will operate at the intersection of data engineering and architecture, helping move the organization from basic data exchange to true, insight-driven interoperability across clinical, claims, enrollment, quality, and regulatory domains.
This is a hands-on, highly autonomous role ideal for someone who enjoys owning complex problems and shaping data strategy from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a semantic and graph-based data layer to connect healthcare data across multiple domains
  • Build and maintain knowledge graphs, ontologies, and semantic models that define and relate enterprise data
  • Engineer scalable data pipelines using Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake, Medallion Architecture)
  • Design and optimize graph persistence models using Azure Cosmos DB
  • Establish data lineage, metadata, and traceability frameworks to support audit and compliance requirements
  • Enable regulatory and analytics reporting by creating unified data definitions and impact analysis
  • Partner with analytics, finance, quality, and compliance teams to deliver interpretable and trusted datasets
  • Design data structures that support future AI and machine learning use cases

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of experience in data engineering
  • Deep experience within the Azure ecosystem
  • Strong expertise in:
    • Semantic modeling and data architecture
    • Knowledge graphs and ontology design
    • Azure Cosmos DB (graph modeling and performance tuning)
    • Databricks (PySpark, Delta Lake, notebooks, structured streaming)
    • Data governance, lineage, and metadata frameworks
  • Strong understanding of healthcare payer data, including claims, clinical, eligibility, quality, and regulatory data
  • Proven ability to independently design and implement new data architectures with minimal oversight

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Thinks like an architect and executes like an engineer
  • Comfortable owning large, ambiguous initiatives
  • Proactive and anticipates data quality, compliance, and scalability challenges
  • Strong conceptual thinker who can translate complex relationships into usable data models
  • Confident communicator who can partner effectively with both technical and non-technical teams

Work Environment & Details

  • 100% Remote
  • Contract opportunity (6 months)
  • Agile, collaborative, and fast-paced environment
  • High-visibility initiative with meaningful ownership and impact
