Job DescriptionGeneral FunctionThe Data Engineer is responsible for designing and building data platforms, tools, and solutions that enable the organization to manage, secure, and derive value from its data. This role focuses on developing scalable and reusable capabilities for collecting, storing, processing, and delivering data across both traditional and modern architectures. The position works with technologies such as IBM DB2, IBM Information Server (DataStage), Snowflake, and dbt, supporting on-premise and cloud environments. The role also incorporates the use of GenAI tools to enhance productivity and prepare data for AI-readiness, while overseeing the full lifecycle of data assets to ensure quality, discoverability, and governance.
The position is accountable for managing risk by sharing ideas, raising concerns, and adhering to established policies and procedures. The role requires consistently acting in the best interest of customers and colleagues and ensuring that actions support a positive customer experience. Within the organization's risk appetite, the Data Engineer is expected to identify, assess, manage, monitor, and report risks across all categories.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Design, develop, and support scalable data solutions, APIs, tools, and processes that enable efficient delivery of business capabilities across traditional and modern data platforms.
- Collaborate with IT application teams, enterprise architecture, infrastructure, information security, and business stakeholders to translate business and technical strategies into data-driven solutions.
- Serve as a technical expert in areas such as system and application design, performance, integration, and security.
- Conduct research and development on emerging trends and technologies related to data engineering, data architecture, data security, AI-readiness, and industry advancements.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and self-service deployment tools to support streamlined development and operational processes.
- Evaluate data and software products and provide documented recommendations to enhance capabilities.
- Provide support and troubleshooting for data pipelines and platforms, including escalated on-call support for critical incidents.
- Participate in planning and executing internal initiatives, including legacy system modernization, data pipeline modernization, monitoring enhancements, and documentation improvements.
- Optimize and automate data pipelines to improve efficiency, scalability, observability, and performance.
- Utilize GenAI tools to improve engineering productivity and support data preparation for AI and machine learning use cases.
- Apply a data product mindset by managing the full lifecycle of data assets, ensuring quality, discoverability, and governance.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to team members.
- Manage and prioritize multiple assignments in a dynamic environment.
- Promote collaboration and continuous learning through cross-functional initiatives, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
- Deliver high-impact data solutions within Agile teams through close coordination with product owners and stakeholders.
