Job Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Linguist III to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a graduate degree in Linguistics and
near-native proficiency in a language other than English, preferably Vietnamese, Dutch, Portuguese, or Thai. This role involves performing linguistic analyses, contributing to AI model development, and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities: - Perform linguistic analyses on large datasets.
- Conduct linguistic error analysis of AI model outputs to identify frequent and severe error categories.
- Write and revise guidelines for human annotation and translation projects.
- Conduct sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and pragmatics research across multiple languages.
- Perform linguistic analyses for Responsible AI, focusing on toxic language, hate speech, gender bias, and other cultural biases.
- Conduct linguistic literature reviews on NLP-adjacent topics and summarize findings.
- Compare the quality of linguistic work between vendors, identify error patterns, and provide actionable feedback.
- Provide guidance on linguistic knowledge, including typology, morpho-syntax, sociolinguistics, classification, phonetics/phonology, and pragmatics.
- Collaborate with native speakers of various languages.
- Communicate results of linguistic analyses to engineers and research scientists.
Qualifications: - Graduate degree in Linguistics (PhD is a plus).
- Near-native proficiency in a language other than English, preferably Vietnamese, Dutch, Portuguese, or Thai.
- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of conversation dynamics (e.g., turn-taking, repairs, argumentation).
- Proficiency in Python and SQL; knowledge of R or other data analysis languages is a plus.
- Experience with Natural Language Processing techniques and corpus linguistics is a plus.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills, especially in business and research contexts.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage complex requests under pressure.
- Experience working cross-functionally and collaborating with machine learning, NLP, or software engineers, or data scientists.
- Experience contributing to research papers.
- Knowledge of international language-classification standards is valued.

Pay Range: $50 - $55/hour on W2
The specific compensation for this position will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
