7192 - Enterprise Architecture Operations & Governance Lead (Must reside in Sacramento to be considered)
Position Overview
Seeking a highly experienced Enterprise Architect (EA) Consultant to lead the tactical execution of enterprise architecture while designing and standing up a formal Enterprise Architecture Office within a unified Strategy & Governance function.
This role combines hands-on solution architecture leadership with operating model design, governance framework development, AI enablement, automation strategy, and cross-functional integration with PMO and business relationship functions.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in enterprise data architecture, governance models, AI/ML enablement, and large-scale IT transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Tactical Enterprise Architecture Leadership
- Develop solution intents, Architecture Decision Records (ADRs), and reference architectures aligned to enterprise standards
- Curate and enforce cloud, data, integration, security, and AI/ML patterns
- Lead Architecture Review Boards (ARB), manage exceptions and technical debt
- Maintain business capability maps and technology roadmaps
- Embed security and privacy-by-design principles
- Evaluate vendors, tools, and software purchases for architectural fit and compliance
- Optimize and maintain CMDB alignment with enterprise standards
- Assess system interoperability, scalability, and lifecycle governance
- Research emerging technologies and recommend strategic improvements
- Develop architectural models, transition plans, and business cases
- Align IT investments to organizational strategy and portfolio objectives
Enterprise Architecture Office Design & Governance
- Define EA operating model, mission, service catalog, and engagement framework
- Establish demand-to-delivery lifecycle processes (intake through delivery checkpoints)
- Define EA organizational roles (domain architects, analysts, governance leads)
- Implement tooling for architecture repositories, automation workflows, and dashboards
- Develop architecture compliance metrics and executive reporting dashboards
- Establish governance for standards, exceptions, procurement review, cybersecurity alignment, and AI oversight
AI, Data & Automation Enablement
- Implement AI and automation within IT governance and operational processes
- Establish data architecture guardrails, lineage, metadata, and migration frameworks
- Define AI use case registry, model governance controls, and risk frameworks
- Build automation workflows using low-code platforms
- Develop portfolio dashboards integrating architecture, financial, and delivery data
- Enable PM automation (RAID logs, stage gates, reporting workflows)
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Bachelor s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technical field
- 15+ years of experience in IT roles including infrastructure, enterprise systems, and data management
- 15+ years of experience in enterprise data architecture, data migration, and data governance
- 15+ years of experience mapping business capabilities to IT solutions and optimizing enterprise processes
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing enterprise governance models supporting:
- Technology procurement
- Cybersecurity governance
- AI governance
- Project integration frameworks
- Business enablement processes
- Experience implementing AI and automation within IT governance or operational processes
- Strong executive-level communication and facilitation experience
