Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for a
Smart Hands Technician - IT Asset Management & Critical Spaces for a
contract assignment with one of our premier
Financial Services clients in Manhattan, NYC.
Onsite: 5 days/week. This role is a
general Smart Hands position supporting both
Data Center environments and the build-out of Midtown critical spaces (MDFs/IDFs) . The technician will act as the
on-site execution arm of remote engineering, network, and workplace technology teams , with a strong emphasis on
IT Asset Management (approximately 40%) .
This is a
pure execution role and does not include ownership of infrastructure design or ongoing operations.
Responsibilities:
- Execute IT Asset Management activities in strict alignment with the IT Asset Management Lifecycle (request, receipt, deployment, move, change, retirement, and disposal)
- Perform asset receiving, validation, tagging, serial number capture, and reconciliation for IT equipment
- Maintain accurate asset records, location data, and lifecycle status within ServiceNow
- Perform inventory audits in Data Centers, MDFs, and IDFs to validate physical-to-system consistency
- Update asset records to reflect relocations, installs, decommissions, and disposals
- Support audit inquiries by providing asset verification, documentation, and evidence
- Identify and escalate discrepancies, missing assets, or data integrity issues
- Ensure asset handling complies with security, disposal, and governance requirements
- Execute Smart Hands tasks under direction from remote infrastructure and engineering teams
- Perform physical installation, relocation, removal, and validation of servers, network devices, and supporting IT hardware
- Support rack-and-stack activities, cabinet builds, cage deployments, and repositioning of equipment
- Perform copper and fiber patching, labeling, cable cleanup, and cable-path verification
- Conduct visual inspections, LED/status checks, serial number validation, and photo documentation
- Respond to urgent Smart Hands requests to support incident resolution and minimize service impact
- Support IT infrastructure build-out for new Midtown office locations, including MDF and IDF rooms
- Assist with installation of network racks, switches, firewalls, and edge infrastructure
- Perform structured cabling patching, labeling, and documentation in office IT spaces
- Validate physical readiness of IT critical spaces (rack securement, power availability, cabling complete)
- Coordinate on-site activities with facilities teams, construction vendors, and IT project stakeholders
- Execute work from detailed runbooks, work orders, and technical instructions
- Adhere strictly to safety, access, security, and change management requirements
- Provide clear task updates, confirmations, and issue escalation
- Support off-hours, weekends, and critical cutover windows as required
Required Skills:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in IT critical spaces, including Data Centers, MDFs, and IDFs
- Demonstrated experience performing IT Asset Management activities across the full asset lifecycle
- Required experience using ServiceNow for asset tracking, updates, and reconciliation
- Experience providing Smart Hands / on-site execution support for IT infrastructure teams
- Strong working knowledge of racks, cabinets, patch panels, structured cabling, and MDF/IDF layouts
- Proven ability to maintain high data accuracy between physical assets and system records
- Ability to follow detailed technical and process instructions with precision
- Strong attention to detail, particularly for labeling, documentation, and asset validation
- Ability to work independently onsite while coordinating remotely with technical teams
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility to support off-hours work and emergency requests as project timelines require
- Ability to independently lift and move equipment; lifting aids provided where applicable
Preferred Skills:
- Experience supporting data center relocations, office build outs, or site expansions
- Familiarity with enterprise hardware (e.g., Dell, HPE, Cisco, Juniper)
- Experience working in colocation facilities and regulated enterprise environments
- Ability to read rack elevations, floor plans, asset lists, and move runbooks
- Experience supporting inventory audits or regulatory reviews
- Understanding of IT governance, asset control, and chain-of-custody principles
