Overview

East Penn Manufacturing is seeking a motivated Process Engineering Intern to support the Smelter Department. This internship provides hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, focusing on process documentation, standardization, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency. The intern will work closely with engineers, supervisors, and production personnel to analyze existing processes, develop documentation, and contribute to projects designed to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance.

Responsibilities

  • Document manufacturing and smelting processes to support operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and process documentation.
  • Create process maps and visual aids to support training and standardization.
  • Collect and analyze production data to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Support process optimization projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to implement improvements and measure results.
  • Prepare and present project findings, recommendations, and progress updates.

Qualifications

JOB SKILL REQUIREMENT:

  • Full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related Science field; Sophomore standing or higher required.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing and production environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work on the production floor and follow all safety procedures.
  • Must be able to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including:
    • Safety Glasses
    • Safety Shoes
    • Hard Hat
    • Respirator
  • Demonstrates a strong interest in process improvement, problem solving, and manufacturing operations.
