Job Title: Data Engineer / Application Developer

Location: 100% Onsite - Southern California

Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire

Compensation: $100K-$125K
Overview

We are seeking a Data Engineer / Application Developer to support enterprise IT and business applications in a production environment. This role will focus on database upgrades, application development, and ongoing support for critical business systems.

The ideal candidate brings a blend of SQL Server expertise and application development experience, along with strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
  • Upgrade and modernize Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Install, configure, and maintain SQL Server environments
  • Support upgrades of custom-built and third-party business applications
  • Develop and maintain applications, reports, and system interfaces
  • Gather and document business requirements for development efforts
  • Provide production support for applications and technical environments
  • Troubleshoot system issues and perform root cause analysis
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors on system updates and issue resolution
  • Implement and follow processes for system migration, testing, and support
  • Support ongoing application maintenance, including patching and enhancements
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Provide occasional off-hours support for production issues
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or SQL Server Database Administrator
  • 3+ years of experience in application development using C#, .NET, or other object-oriented languages
  • Strong hands-on SQL experience (querying, scripting, database development)
  • Experience with SQL Server disaster recovery solutions:
    • Always On
    • Log Shipping
    • Failover / Clustering
    • Database Mirroring
  • Experience supporting enterprise applications in a production environment
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and support critical systems
Preferred / Additional Skills
  • Experience working with both custom-built and third-party applications
  • Familiarity with multi-team IT environments (infrastructure, networking, hosting, etc.)
  • Experience supporting business-critical systems with high availability requirements
Work Environment & Additional Requirements
  • 100% onsite role (Monday-Friday during standard business hours)
  • Occasional off-hours or on-call support may be required
  • Must be comfortable working in a structured, process-driven environment
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background screening as part of the engagement
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical teams and end users
