Job Title: Pharmacy Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Duration - 6-12+ Months
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly knowledgeable Pharmacy Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide
clinical, regulatory, and operational expertise in pharmacy practices. The role involves supporting
business processes, digital transformation initiatives, compliance, and ensuring adherence to
pharmaceutical standards and patient safety norms.
Job Location & Mode: United States, Remote, Willing to go to client site on a need basis
Key Responsibilities Domain Expertise & Advisory
• Act as the primary expert on pharmacy-related processes, regulations, and standards
• Provide insights on drug dispensing, inventory management, and prescription workflows
• Support clinical validation and review of pharmacy-related systems and processes
Regulatory Compliance
• Ensure adherence to local and international pharmacy laws (e.g., Drug & Cosmetics Act,
NABH, FDA, GMP, etc.)
• Support audits, compliance checks, and documentation requirements
• Monitor updates in regulations and ensure organizational alignment
Process Improvement
• Analyze current pharmacy operations and recommend process improvements
• Standardize SOPs for dispensing, procurement, storage, and distribution
• Assist in implementing best practices for patient safety and medication management
Technology & Digital Transformation
• Collaborate with IT teams to design and implement pharmacy management systems
• Validate system workflows such as e-prescriptions, billing, inventory, and drug interaction
alerts
• Participate in UAT (User Acceptance Testing) for pharmacy-related applications
Training & Knowledge Sharing
• Develop training materials for pharmacy staff and healthcare teams
• Conduct workshops on new regulations, systems, and best practices
• Mentor junior pharmacists and operational teams
Quality Assurance
• Ensure accuracy in dispensing and documentation processes
• Monitor medication errors and implement corrective/preventive actions
• Maintain high standards of quality and patient safety
Stakeholder Collaboration
• Work with doctors, nurses, supply chain, and compliance teams
• Liaise with vendors, regulatory bodies, and external auditors
Required Skills & Qualifications Educational Qualification
• Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm / M.Pharm / Pharm.D)
• Registered Pharmacist (as per applicable regulatory authority)
Experience
• 5+ years of experience in pharmacy operations, hospital pharmacy, or pharma domain
• Experience in retail, hospital, or health-tech/pharmacy platforms preferred
Domain Knowledge
• Strong understanding of:
o Drug classifications, dosage forms, and interactions
o Prescription validation and dispensing practices o
Inventory and supply chain management
• Familiarity with hospital or retail pharmacy workflows
Technical Skills
• Experience with Pharmacy Management Systems (HIS, ERP, ePharmacy platforms)
• Understanding of digital health systems and e-prescriptions
• Proficiency in MS Office tools
Regulatory Knowledge
• Knowledge of pharmacy laws, GMP, GDP, and regulatory compliance
• Experience handling audits and inspections
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in healthcare IT or pharmacy digital transformation projects
• Exposure to accreditation standards (NABH, JCI)
• Certification in clinical pharmacy or pharmacovigilance
• Experience in e-commerce pharmacy platforms
