Location: New Albany, Ohio (Onsite)
Role Overview
This position is for a Hardware Engineer to work onsite in a data center environment. The role involves identifying and responding to risks and high-priority issues, troubleshooting incidents, and managing various data center operations. The successful candidate will contribute to infrastructure design, system automation, and process improvement within an agile framework. This is an opportunity with the possibility of extension and requires eligibility for conversion.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently identify and respond to onsite risks and high-priority issues, including troubleshooting incidents and managing incident queues.
- Execute tasks related to data center systems, such as critical system installations, data room moves, decommissions, and reconfigurations.
- Contribute to design decisions regarding OSI Model Layer 1 infrastructure, system automation, and capacity planning.
- Apply knowledge of data center infrastructure components and their impact on services during moves, adds, and changes.
- Define, evaluate, and improve team documentation and processes.
- Participate in team agile ceremonies, lead demos, and contribute to technology communities.
Required Qualifications
Education:Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, CIS, Network, Telecommunications, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
Experience:1-3+ years of experience in deploying and maintaining complex data center environments.
Technical Skills:- Understanding of indoor/outdoor cable plants, including copper and fiber optic cabling.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure components (LAN/WAN/SAN, firewalls, servers, storage).
- Familiarity with EIA/TIA, IEEE, NEC, and ISO standards for data centers and structured cabling.
- Proficiency in Layer 1 technologies (Single Mode, Multimode, Cat 5e/6/6A, DAC, Optical Transceivers).
- Knowledge of network monitoring tools (SNMP, CDP, ICMP) and protocols.
- Strong documentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Data center and/or networking industry certifications.
- 3-5 years of experience designing, deploying, and maintaining complex data center environments.
- Experience with system automation and an automation-first mindset.
- Knowledge of data center hardware platforms (Network, Compute, IoT, AV).
- Familiarity with data center operations including power, cooling, and physical security.
