Summary

Overview

The SharePoint Online Migration Specialist is tasked with leading the planning, execution, and support of migrations from legacy SharePoint environments into modern SharePoint Online. This role emphasizes seamless transitions of content, workflows, permissions, and solutions while utilizing modern SharePoint Online capabilities and the Power Platform to modernize and enhance business processes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform seamless content migrations from SharePoint Subscription Edition to SharePoint Online using enterprise-grade migration tools such as ShareGate, Migration Manager, and PowerShell automation.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve migration challenges, including throttling, permissions discrepancies, legacy workflow dependencies, or unsupported customizations.
  • Conduct pre-migration assessments and generate comprehensive deliverables, including inventory reports, mapping documents, content normalization, and remediation plans.
  • Transform legacy SharePoint customizations and workflows into modern SharePoint Online solutions using tools like Power Automate, Power Apps, and the SharePoint Framework (SPFx) as needed.
  • Assist in evaluating and selecting "best-fit" replacements for legacy solutions.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to modernize legacy forms and workflows (e.g., InfoPath, SharePoint Designer workflows) into sustainable, cloud-based solutions aligned with current technological capabilities.
  • Design, build, and optimize Power Apps that integrate with SharePoint lists and libraries, as well as external data sources.
  • Develop Power Automate flows to replace outdated workflows and automate repetitive business processes, enhancing efficiency and functionality.
  • Implement governance-compliant best practices for Power Platform deployment, application lifecycle management (ALM), and solution support.
  • Develop solutions that leverage on-premises data gateways, ensuring seamless integration of data sources.
  • Provide expert guidance on content clean-up, restructuring, and metadata optimization to improve the usability, navigation, and searchability of SharePoint Online sites.
  • Configure modern SharePoint Online environments, including sites, hubs, permissions, and information architecture, while enhancing user experiences.
  • Partner with site owners to ensure compliance with governance standards, assist with aligning content and permissions, and improve platform accessibility and security.
  • Create and deploy custom PowerShell automation scripts (utilizing PnP.PowerShell, Microsoft Graph, and CSOM) to perform migration tasks, generate reports, streamline bulk updates, and provision resources efficiently.
  • Diagnose and resolve PowerShell and API-related issues that arise during migration and modernization processes.
  • Maintain repositories of reusable automation scripts and ensure adherence to documentation standards.
  • Manage site automation and migration workflows through efficient use of custom PowerShell functionality.
  • Work closely with project managers, stakeholders, and technical teams to gather business requirements, execute migration plans, and provide timely project status updates.
  • Deliver post-migration support, including issue resolution, user education, training, and knowledge transfer to ensure successful adoption.
  • Assist in the creation of comprehensive documentation, including migration workflows, governance guidelines, and onboarding resources to enhance operational transparency and efficiency.

Qualifications

  • A strong foundation in Computer Science with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in the field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience.
  • Experience gathering and translating business and technical requirements in complex IT environments.
  • Experience documenting workflows, process maps, and system interactions.
  • Ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance is required.
  • Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

Minimum Skills Required:
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond effectively to customers with a sense of urgency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft and Adobe toolsets, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Acrobat, etc.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to handle and manage multiple tasks at any one time.
  • Ability to forge new relationships, individual and teaming in nature.
  • Must be a Self-starter, that can work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Microsoft certifications (e.g., MS?700, MS?600, PL?100/200/400, SC?300).
  • Experience with SPFx, TypeScript, React, or other modern development frameworks.
  • Background supporting federal, regulated, or secure enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with taxonomy, content types, and enterprise metadata strategies.
