About the Opportunity: We are seeking a highly skilled Traveling Mission Critical PLC Engineer to support the deployment, commissioning, and optimization of advanced control systems within hyperscale and enterprise data center environments across the United States.
This position offers the flexibility to be based anywhere in the U.S. while working on some of the industry\'s most complex and technically challenging mission critical projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PLC programming, startup, and commissioning, along with hands-on experience supporting central plant, HVAC, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure systems in live operating facilities.
This is a field-focused engineering role that combines troubleshooting, commissioning, client interaction, and technical problem-solving throughout all phases of project execution.
What You\'ll Do
Commissioning & Startup
- \tCommission and start up PLC-based automation systems supporting data center infrastructure
- \tPerform onsite testing, troubleshooting, and validation of HVAC, mechanical, and electrical control systems
- \tSupport static and dynamic commissioning activities to ensure systems operate according to design intent
- \tAssist with functional performance testing, system integration, and turnover activities
PLC Programming & Troubleshooting
- \tModify, troubleshoot, and optimize PLC logic in support of operational requirements
- \tDiagnose and resolve hardware, software, networking, and communication issues in real-time
- \tImplement control strategy updates and customer-requested enhancements
- \tSupport redundancy testing and failover validation for critical systems
Field Engineering & Client Support
- \tServe as a technical resource for contractors, commissioning teams, vendors, and end users
- \tProvide both onsite and remote support throughout project execution
- \tParticipate in project meetings, design reviews, and commissioning planning activities
- \tDocument programming revisions, field changes, and system configurations for project closeout
Project Delivery
- \tCollaborate with engineering, construction, and operations teams to ensure successful project execution
- \tAssist with system handoff and operator training
- \tSupport multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high levels of quality and responsiveness
Qualifications
- \t5+ years of PLC programming, controls engineering, or automation experience
- \tStrong experience with Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 and Allen-Bradley PLC platforms
- \tProven field commissioning and startup experience within industrial, central plant, mission critical, or large-scale facility environments
- \tExperience supporting chiller plants, boiler plants, or other complex mechanical systems
- \tStrong troubleshooting skills across PLC hardware, networking, communications, and control sequences
- \tAbility to work independently in fast-paced field environments
- \tExcellent communication and customer-facing skills
- \tAbility and willingness to travel approximately 50% throughout the United States
- \tValid driver\'s license
Preferred Experience
- \tData center, hyperscale, or mission critical facility experience
- \tIgnition SCADA, HMI, BMS, EPMS, or facility automation integration experience
- \tExperience programming or supporting redundant PLC architectures
- \tFamiliarity with large-scale construction, commissioning, and turnover processes
- \tBachelor\'s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field
